Correction (4 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.
This page is about menus built around vegan food, not places that tolerate a request. It lists six places near Abbotsford: three in Collingwood and three in Fitzroy. None are in Abbotsford itself.
For each one we report the markers and statements the venue prints, and nothing beyond them. Some kitchens are fully plant-based by their own description; others offer vegan options, which is a different promise. We say which is which, and each entry ends with one question to ask.
We checked every place against two independent sources. Some of these sites look partly dated, so confirm hours before you travel.

Shu — 147 Johnston Street, Collingwood VIC 3066
Shu’s site describes a 100% vegan dining experience that combines Sichuan flavours, local ingredients and modern cooking. Its menu prints the 10 COURSE VEGAN DEGUSTATION at $95, and it lists unlimited yum cha lunch on weekends, which it prices at $65 per person within two hours. The site lists dinner from 6pm Wednesday to Saturday, and AGFG tags Gluten Free Options. The site footer looks dated, so confirm it is trading as listed.
On the menu (copied from shurestaurant.com and shurestaurant.com/menu.pdf on 4 October 2026):
- 10 COURSE VEGAN DEGUSTATION: $95
- Vegan chocolate mousse cannoli, almond dust: $18
Fully plant-based or options: Fully vegan by the venue’s own statement; for gluten, AGFG only tags Gluten Free Options, so ask the kitchen.
Smith + Daughters — 107 Cambridge Street, Collingwood VIC 3066
OpenStreetMap tags this restaurant diet:vegan=only, and its own site calls it the hatted plant-based restaurant from chef Shannon Martinez. The site lists Tues to Sat from 5:30 to late, while AGFG tags it as child friendly. We found no prices on its menu pages, which show example menus as images.
Ask: Whether the example menus online match what is being served on the night, since they are labelled as examples.
Red Sparrow Pizza — 60 Rose Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Red Sparrow’s site calls it Melbourne’s only 100% vegan pizzeria, and says the restaurant is free from animal derived products, with any references to meat or dairy being plant based alternatives. The menu prints the MARGHERITA at $26 and NOT WINGS at $17. Its site lists it as closed Monday and Tuesday, with the weekend opening at 10am, and mentions a rooftop bar.
Menu markers: The menu prints a GFO marker beside the Margherita, so ask what it covers before you order.
Noi Thai — 205 Smith Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Noi Thai’s site headlines a Thai restaurant with a Vegan Menu, and its takeaway menu prints spring rolls vegan (3) at $9.90 and Spicy vegan drunken noodles at $21.90. The same menu marks dumplings chives (3) GF at $12.90. The site lists dinner Wednesday to Sunday from 5.30pm, with the kitchen closing at 9.30pm, while its takeaway menu PDF says Tuesday to Sunday. It still carries a COVID-era banner and the menu says prices are subject to change, so treat both as dated.
On the menu (copied from noithai.com.au on 4 October 2026):
- spring rolls vegan (3): $9.90
- curry puffs vegan (3): $9.90
- Spicy vegan `drunken noodles’: $21.90
Kitchen statement: The site says BYO wine only; it makes no allergen or shared-kitchen statement we could read, so ask.
Evie’s Disco Diner — 230-232 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
The page title on Evie’s site reads Best Vegan Diner Food in Fitzroy, and it describes kitsch comfort food inspired by classic New York diner fare. It lists a bottomless brunch menu and an a la carte menu running from 1pm Saturday and Sunday. Hours listed include Thursday and Friday from 4pm to 1am and Saturday from 11am to 1am. The site is undated, so check hours before you go. We found no prices in text.
Ask: Whether the whole menu is vegan, since the site’s own words are about its vegan diner food rather than a kitchen statement.
Friends of the Earth — 312 Smith Street, Collingwood VIC 3066
AGFG tags this Collingwood cafe with Vegan Options, Vegetarian Options, Gluten Free Options, Breakfast, Child Friendly and Takeaway. Options is the key word: it is not tagged as fully vegan. foefood.org lists 9.30 to 5 Monday to Saturday and 10 to 4.30 on Sunday. We found no printed prices.
Fully plant-based or options: Options only, per AGFG; ask which items are vegan and how they are prepared.

How we checked
We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the Australian Good Food Guide, the places’ own websites and melbournefoe.org.au. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 4 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go.
