Correction (10 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 9 October 2026.

Four cafes make up this breakfast page: one in Blackburn North and three on the Box Hill side, one of which OpenStreetMap places in Box Hill North. Each one has either an AGFG breakfast listing or an early start on a published listing.

We built it from listings, not from menus. We have not printed a roaster for any of them, and we have not printed a menu. Where a source gives hours we say whose listing it is.

Sweet or savoury, the order is yours.

The Penny Drop — 913 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill VIC 3128

AGFG lists Breakfast for The Penny Drop. The cafe’s own site lists Monday to Friday 7AM - 3PM and Saturday to Sunday 8AM - 3PM. The pages we read were undated, so check the hours before you go. We have not printed a menu.

Go for: The 7AM weekday start and 8AM weekend start that the cafe’s own site lists.

Rubix — 519 Middleborough Road, Box Hill VIC 3128

AGFG lists Breakfast and Alfresco Dining for Rubix on Middleborough Road. OpenStreetMap, a Rubix-specific site and AGFG agree on 519 Middleborough Road, though OpenStreetMap files it under Box Hill North 3129 and AGFG under Box Hill 3128. We have not printed its hours, because the AGFG listing carried conflicting sets.

Roaster: We have not copied a roaster name for Rubix, so we name none.

Matta Cafe — 55 Katrina Street, Blackburn North VIC 3130

Matta Cafe is the Blackburn North entry, next door to Box Hill North. Its weekday start is 07:00 on the OpenStreetMap tag, with 07:30 on Saturday and 08:00 on Sunday, all closing at 15:00. That tag is the only hours source we have, and it may be stale. We have not printed a menu.

Go for: A 07:00 weekday start, going by the OpenStreetMap tag.

Cafe Saporo — 818 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill VIC 3128

The Cafe Saporo site calls the cafe “a perfect stop for breakfast before work” from Monday to Thursday. It lists Monday to Thursday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm and Friday 7:00 am - 12:00 am, with Saturday and Sunday closed. The pages we read were undated, so check currency.

The order: We have not printed a menu, so the site’s own breakfast-before-work pitch is the only guide.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 9 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the places’ own websites and the Australian Good Food Guide. We copied no menu prices from these places’ own pages, so this page prints none. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
