Correction (1 October 2026): an earlier version of this page was generated from map listings. It ranked 15 places by Google star ratings and review counts, called businesses in Doncaster and Mont Albert North “a local cafe in Box Hill North”, and claimed “We tested the local cafes” when nobody had. It has been rewritten. Every cafe below was checked against its own website or menu and one independent listing on 1 October 2026, and every price was copied from the cafe’s own menu.
Box Hill North sits 14 km east of the CBD in the City of Whitehorse, boxed in by Koonung Creek, Elgar Road, Middleborough Road and Thames Street. The eastern end also goes by Kerrimuir. The cafes on this list are spread out: a sandwich house on Trawool Street, a long brunch menu on Middleborough Road, jaffles and filter coffee on Woodhouse Grove.
All three publish their menus online, and so does the fourth pick, just over the line in Doncaster. That means you can see the price of a flat white before you leave the house. Sweet or savoury, pick a lane.

Cafe Kahvila — 25 Trawool Street, Box Hill North VIC 3129
Kahvila calls itself a “speciality coffee and sandwich house”, and the menu puts the sandwiches first. The Cubano ($18.50) is house-made mojo roast pork, ham, pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard on toasted light rye. Mojo is the Cuban garlic-and-citrus marinade, which is why the pork gets top billing. The Reuben, with house-made pastrami and sauerkraut, is the same price, and the vegetarian falafel Reuben/Cubano is $12.
Coffee is short and sized: a small flat white is $5.50, a large $6.50, and a magic $6. Matcha fans get a Matcha Cloud, in coconut, strawberry, blueberry or sweet, for $8.50. Whitehorse City Council’s business site profiled the opening, and says the owners worked with its Business Support Advisor to get the cafe through approvals.

Cafe Rubix — 519 Middleborough Road, Box Hill North VIC 3129
The biggest brunch menu on this list. The all-day menu linked from Rubix’s own Linktree is a file whose name carries the date 25 September 2026. It runs from eggs your way ($14.50) to the Hungry Pioneer big brekkie ($29): two poached eggs on sourdough with bacon, chorizo, smashed avo, a hash brown and honey-glazed tomatoes.
Sweet tooth? The brioche French toast ($25) comes with grilled banana, poached apple, berries, whipped citrus ricotta, lemon curd, maple syrup and crushed pistachios. Savoury? The Fool’s Gold Benedict ($26) stacks pulled beef and a poached egg on a chunky rosti under hollandaise. Black or white coffee is listed at $5.30 or $6, and there’s a single-origin cold drip at $5.50 or $6.50.
Read the fine print: the menu adds a 5% weekend surcharge and 12% on public holidays. Rubix also posts a separate dinner menu, Rubix By Night.

Dwelling’s own ordering site sums it up in its page title: coffee, jaffles and sweets in Box Hill North. The spaghetti bolognese jaffle ($10) is the old-school one, pressed in a jaffle iron; the curry puff jaffle ($12) is curried potato with a warning that “it has spice”. The truffled shroom toastie, cup and porcini mushrooms with truffle and shaved pecorino, is $17. Jaffles and toasties are listed from 7:10am to 3:24pm, which is precise.
This is the one for coffee nerds. Espresso is a single origin of the day, batch brew is single-origin filter at $5, and a flat white is $5.30. Then the specialty list: a Mont Blanc ($9.50), filter coffee under sweetened cream with nutmeg and orange; a Cham ($10), the house blend with assam tea under sweet cream, which the menu calls Malaysia inspired; and a pandan cloud on coconut water ($9).

Doncaster is Box Hill North’s neighbour to the north, and this is the only one of the four whose menu says who roasts its coffee: “Coffee by Five Senses”. It is also the cheapest small coffee here, at $4.70, with a medium at $5.70 and a large at $6.70.
The menu leans Mediterranean. Shakshuka ($24) is eggs poached in a capsicum and tomato sugo with sujuk, a spiced Turkish sausage, plus whipped feta and herb focaccia for mopping up. Eggs on toast are $13.90 and the Big Breaky is $22.90. The site describes a fully licensed cafe with an outdoor courtyard, and the menu backs that up with an espresso martini at $15. The kitchen closes at 3pm every day.

On 1 October 2026 we started from the names on the old page and read each cafe’s own website, menu PDF or ordering page, copying every item and price exactly as printed. Cafe Rubix’s prices come from the menu PDF linked on its Linktree; Dwelling’s from its own Square ordering site; Paul & Sons Eatery’s from the menu PDF linked on its home page. We confirmed each address at a second, independent source: Whitehorse City Council’s business site, Zest, Curateria or OpenStreetMap. Suburb boundaries and neighbours are from Wikipedia.
We left out places we could not stand behind. Middleborough Latte Cafe has no website or menu of its own that we could find, so it is not here. Banh Mi Cafe is a common search for the suburb, but we found no menu or site of its own to check, so it is not here either. Neither absence says anything about the food.
