Sweet or savoury? This page is thin on purpose: four bakeries and cake shops in and around Brooklyn, two in West Footscray, one in Altona North and one in Kingsville.
The lineup runs from cupcakes to muffins, Greek cakes and bagels. Each entry uses listed hours and any menu prices we could find, and says where the listings disagree.
We did not find a roaster named for any of them, so this is a cakes-and-bakes list, not a coffee one.

Cupcakes by Paolo — 28C Ashley Street, West Footscray VIC 3012
A cupcake shop with a pre-order focus. The site lists Classic Vanilla at $4.00, cutting cakes starting at $45.00 and giant cupcakes from $75.00. Its FAQ says you can buy cupcakes in store from Tuesday to Saturday, with limited stock and flavours, and that you can pick up an order at the West Footscray store. Its contact page lists Monday to Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm and Sunday closed. Those pages differ, so check before you go.

The order: Classic Vanilla at $4.00 is the one flavour with a single price on the shop page, and the other flavours show a range, which we have not printed as a price.
Muffin Break (Altona Gate) — 124-134 Millers Road (Altona Gate Shopping Centre, lower level opposite Cotton On), Altona North VIC 3025
A chain store inside Altona Gate Shopping Centre, lower level opposite Cotton On. The centre’s page says the bakers are in each day baking muffins, scones, quiches, pies and more. The chain’s store page lists menu categories, among them Breakfast with Croissant, Toasties and Wrap. We found no prices. The store page lists Monday to Wednesday 8:00 am - 5:30 pm and Thursday to Friday 8:00 am - 9:00 pm. Saturday is 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Roaster: Not named in the sources we checked, so we are not guessing one.
Olive Oil & Butter — 196 Somerville Road, Kingsville VIC 3012
Its site says Greek cakes and desserts are served daily. Its dessert page lists Kourambies, Melomakarono, Almond macaroon and Rizogalo, a sweet creamy rice pudding with vanilla. Kourambies are butter shortbread biscuits, and melomakarono is a honey-and-spice biscuit. That dessert page looks older than the venue’s current ordering site, so we have not copied its prices and could not confirm them. The venue’s own pages also disagree on opening hours, so phone before you go.
Go for: The Greek biscuits and rice pudding listed on the dessert page, once a phone call has confirmed hours and prices.
Mr Baxter — 1/1 Ormond Road, West Footscray VIC 3012
No bakery site turned up for this one. A Mamma Knows West review describes everything bagels, loaded sandos, specialty drinks and insane NY-style cookies. The review also mentions a dedicated kids menu for the minis. We found no prices. The review lists Tuesday - Sunday 6.30am - 4pm, while OpenStreetMap says Tu-Fr 07:00-16:00, Sa,Su 08:00-16:00 and Monday off.
Go for: Bagels and cookies per the review; confirm hours first, because the two listings differ on the opening time.
