A pub’s website says a lot about it: the garden, the hours, whether dogs are welcome and what is on. This page takes those published details for seven venues with a beer garden: five in Brunswick and two in Brunswick East.
Each was checked against at least two independent sources, drawn from OpenStreetMap, the venue’s own site and the Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG). Anything we could not find, such as hours for some of them, is left out rather than guessed.

Retreat Hotel — 280 Sydney Rd, Brunswick VIC 3056
Retreat Hotel, at 280 Sydney Rd, says on its own site that it has a huge beer garden that can accommodate big and small groups, and calls the pub very dog friendly. The same site lists food, drink, trivia and live music, open 7 days till late, and AGFG tags it with Live Music and Alfresco Dining. The site’s hours run 3PM to 1AM Monday to Thursday, 12PM to 3AM Friday and Saturday, and 12PM to 1AM Sunday, which makes a Sunday arvo workable on the listed hours.
Trivia: The site lists trivia in its line about food, drink and live music, but we found no day for it, so check the site before you plan around it.
The Brunswick Green — 313-315 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC 3056
The Brunswick Green, at 313-315 Sydney Road, calls its garden ‘our popular beer garden’ on its site, and says dogs are welcome in the garden, with a condition that was cut off in what we read. The site also mentions live music outside in the warmer months, and its gigs page lists one-off events, including one with German bbq sausages and a live oompah band called Hofbrass, so check the date before you go. Its listed hours are 4pm to 11pm Tuesday to Thursday (marked with an asterisk on the site, so check the note), 4pm to 1am Friday, 2pm to 1am Saturday and 2pm to 10pm Sunday.
Garden: Dogs are welcome in the garden per its site, but read the rest of that line on the site before you bring yours.
4 Pines Welcome to Brunswick (Brewery & Beer Garden) — 1 Frith Street, Brunswick VIC 3056
4 Pines Welcome to Brunswick presents itself on its site as a beer garden and brewery, with a booking option for parties. Its FAQ asks ‘Can I bring my dog?’ and answers ‘You sure can’, with the rest of the answer cut off in what we read. The site also advertises a happy hour on its own Brunswick brews, listed as Wednesday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm; we are not printing the price here, so read it on the site.
Deal night: Wednesday to Friday, 5pm to 7pm, going by the happy hour on its site, so check it is still running before you pick your day.
Hotel Railway — 291 Albert St, Brunswick VIC 3056
Hotel Railway, at 291 Albert St, describes itself on its site as sprawling through ’the historical building, beer garden, and courtyard’. The site also leads on a chicken parma, a pub classic, and prints a vegan option in its menu text, while AGFG tags Child Friendly, Alfresco Dining and Gluten Free Options. Hours on its site are Tuesday and Wednesday 4pm to 10pm, Thursday 4pm to 11pm, Friday 12pm to 12am, Saturday 11:30am to 1am and Sunday 11:30am to 11pm.
Go on a: Saturday or Sunday arvo, since the site’s weekend hours open at 11:30am.
The Penny Black — 420 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC 3056
The Penny Black, at 420 Sydney Road, gives us one published line about its garden: its site title reads ‘Pub & Beer Garden’, Sydney Road, Brunswick. We could not find hours, tags or a menu we could read for it, so we are saying only what the site title says. Check with the venue before you head over.
Garden: Only the site title calls it a beer garden, so confirm the details directly.
Bridge Road Brewers — 137-141 Nicholson Street, Brunswick East VIC 3057
Bridge Road Brewers, at 137-141 Nicholson Street, says on its site that its Beechworth and Brunswick venues are ‘doggo-friendly in the beer garden areas’, and AGFG tags it Pet Friendly, Child Friendly, Alfresco Dining, Takeaway, Vegetarian Options and Gluten Free Options. AGFG lists it open 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM every day, but that is the AGFG listing only and may be out of date. Its own site prints the postcode as 3507, a typo for 3057.
Garden: The site’s dog line continues ‘please keep your furry friends’ and was cut off in what we read, so read the rest on the site.
Ramblin’ Man — 76 Lygon Street, Brunswick East VIC 3057
Ramblin’ Man, at 76 Lygon Street, describes itself on its site with ‘cosy lounges, and a lush beer garden out back’. Its site lists hours of 4 PM to 9 PM Monday, 4 PM to 11 PM Tuesday, 2 PM to 11 PM Wednesday and Thursday, 2 PM to 1 AM Friday, 12 PM to 1 AM Saturday and 12 PM to 11 PM Sunday.
Go on a: Wednesday or Thursday, when the site’s hours open at 2 PM, or Friday if you want the 1 AM finish.
