Correction (1 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed nine “Indian food” venues in Camberwell that we could not find at any source, on streets that OpenStreetMap does not show in Camberwell (Swan Road, Pine Place, Chapel Parade), with made-up dishes, prices and seat counts, under postcode 3138, which is Mooroolbark’s, not Camberwell’s (3124). It also claimed every pick had been tested in person. It has been rewritten from scratch. Every venue below was confirmed at two independent sources, and every price was copied from the venue’s own menu or ordering page on 1 October 2026.
Camberwell is not one of Melbourne’s big Indian food suburbs, and the Census says as much. What it does have is a short list of kitchens that publish their menus and prices online, spread across two ends of the suburb, and between them they cover a lot of the subcontinent’s map.
Community context: at the 2021 Census, 441 of Camberwell’s 21,965 residents, 2.0 per cent, were born in India, against 4.0 per cent across Victoria. Mandarin, at 9.3 per cent, is the language most often spoken at home after English. The menus range just as widely: butter chicken sits next to Andhra biryani, momo dumplings and naan tacos.
The precinct: two of the four are around Camberwell Junction, where Burke, Riversdale and Camberwell roads meet, and both appear in the Junction traders’ directory. The other two are within 200 metres of each other on Toorak Road, in the south-east of the suburb. Menus change, so give them a squiz before you head out.

Tandoori Den — 261 Camberwell Rd, Camberwell VIC 3124
Tandoori Den’s own site says it has been serving Indian food in Camberwell since 1981, and points to North Indian cooking and the tandoor, the clay oven that runs far hotter than a home oven. The house calls the burra kebab “our famous Burra Kebab”; burra kebab is traditionally made from thick lamb or mutton chops, marinated in spice and yoghurt and charred in the tandoor, and four pieces are $29.90 on its ordering page, which does not say which meat it uses. A half tandoori chicken is $22.90, butter chicken $29.90, dahl makhani (black lentils slow-cooked with butter and cream) $25.90 and garlic naan $5.90. The site also says all of its mains are gluten-free, that it is BYO for wine only, and that lunch specials start from $15.

Basant Indian Social Dining — 509 Riversdale Rd, Camberwell VIC 3124
Basant takes its name from what its own site calls “the season of renewal, colour, and celebration”, and describes its cooking as modern Indian built around a traditional clay tandoor. The Basant special butter chicken ($26.00) is, in the menu’s words, “Inspired by the culinary traditions of Old Delhi”: fire-roasted chicken in a makhani sauce of tomato, butter and cashew. The vegetarian standout on paper is the Noor Mahal kofta ($24.00), house-made paneer dumplings filled with nuts and raisins in a cashew-and-cream sauce. Small plates run from pani puri bombs ($14.00 for six crisp puris filled with spiced potato, zesty water and chutneys, eaten in one bite) to chicken momo ($16.00 for ten), the hand-folded dumplings of Nepal and the Himalaya; chicken biryani is $25.00 and garlic naan $6.00.

Sri Dwaraka — 1383 Toorak Rd, Camberwell VIC 3124
Sri Dwaraka’s own site calls this its Burwood branch, but the address it gives is Camberwell, and it pitches the kitchen as South Indian and Andhra: “crisp dosas and traditional tiffins to rich curries and our signature tub biryani”. A dosa is a thin crepe of fermented rice and lentil batter cooked until crisp; the plain dosa is $9.99, the masala dosa, wrapped around spiced potato, $12.99, and the ghee podi dosa, brushed with ghee and dusted with a roasted lentil-and-chilli powder, $12.99. Two idli (steamed rice cakes) and a vada (a savoury lentil doughnut) come as a tiffin combo for $10.99. The biryani list reads like a tour of Andhra flavourings: chicken dum biryani is $14.99, and the gongura chicken (boneless) biryani, made with the sour sorrel leaf that is close to a signature of the region, is $15.99.
On the menu: the ordering page’s banner says its Biryani Mela now runs seven days a week, takeaway only, at $10.99; it is a promotion, so check the banner is still up before you count on it.

G.O.A.T Indian Fusion — 1430 Toorak Rd, Camberwell VIC 3124
Further along Toorak Road, G.O.A.T calls itself Indian fusion, and the menu folds North Indian curry into street-food shapes. The butter chicken kebab roll ($16.65) wraps chicken thigh roasted in butter gravy in a soft wrap with onion and green salad, a cousin of the Kolkata kathi roll; the butter chicken taco ($13.30) puts the same idea on a naan taco. If you would rather have it as a curry, the butter chicken ($23.30) is slow-roasted in the tandoor, finished in a tomato, butter and cream gravy and served with rice or naan. A butter chicken curry combo with naan, rice and a drink is $27.75, and a butter garlic naan is $5.00.

Looking for Camberwell Curry House?
OpenStreetMap still places Camberwell Curry House at 509 Riversdale Road. On 1 October 2026 that address appeared on Basant Indian Social Dining’s own website and against Basant in the Camberwell Junction traders’ directory, and the Curry House website showed only a hosting “Account Suspended” page. We could not confirm that Camberwell Curry House is still trading, so it is not in our picks.

How we checked
On 1 October 2026 we read each venue’s own website and its own online ordering page, and copied every item and price exactly as displayed. Tandoori Den, Sri Dwaraka and G.O.A.T load their menus in the browser, so we rendered those ordering pages and copied the prices as they appeared on screen. We confirmed each address at a second, independent source: the Camberwell Junction traders’ directory, a DoorDash store listing, OzFoodHunter or OpenStreetMap. Delivery-app prices were not used. Census figures are from the ABS 2021 QuickStats for Camberwell (Vic.). Online prices can differ from counter prices, specials and deals come and go, and the photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of dish, not the venue’s own food.
