Correction (4 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

A date does not have to involve a drink, but if yours does, these are the four places in and around Carnegie we could confirm: three in Carnegie and one just over the line in Murrumbeena. Each is sorted by what suits the stage, with the listed hours, access notes and prices read openly.

Every fact below says whose listing it comes from. Prices appear only where we could copy them from the venue’s own page, and where listings disagree on hours we say so. Plan B: where a source lists indoor or covered seating, we say so.

The Bank — 75A Koornang Road, Carnegie VIC 3163

The Bank suits a first meet because you control how long it lasts. Its site lists Monday to Thursday from 4pm until late, and its What’s On sheet prints $15 Classic Cocktails from 9pm til Close and $8 Wines in a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm. That sheet is undated and also lists music from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday, so ask about volume if talking matters. The Koornang Road trader page says it is wheelchair accessible and dog friendly.

On the menu (copied from irp.cdn-website.com on 4 October 2026):

  • Classic Cocktails (9pm til Close): $15
  • Wines: $8
  • Pints: $10
  • Guinness Pints: $10

Exit plan: The What’s On sheet lists happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, so one round there is an easy way to end the night or move on to dinner.

La Cabra Mexican Carnegie — 121 Koornang Road, Carnegie VIC 3163

La Cabra’s site describes a courtyard with undercover booths, high tables, festoon lighting and a private bar, so a wet night is covered. It lists $13 Classic and Agave Margaritas every Monday night from 5pm, and half price margaritas on Fridays from 4pm to 6pm. For a cheaper start it prints $5 chicken, beef or eggplant tacos every Tuesday from 5pm. AGFG tags it with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, and terms apply to the specials per the site.

On the menu (copied from lacabramexican.com.au on 4 October 2026):

  • Weekday lunch Burrito, Burrito Bowl or Burger (Mon-Fri 11am-5pm): $12
  • Taco Tuesday chicken, beef, eggplant tacos: $5
  • Wing Wednesday Wings: $1
  • Thursday Burrito Night Burritos (beef, chicken or falafel): $15

Split or splurge: La Cabra’s site lists $5 chicken, beef or eggplant tacos on Tuesdays, so split a few of those, or pick the Monday margarita night if drinks are the plan.

Hecho En Mexico — 94 Koornang Road, Carnegie VIC 3163

For a set-length session, Hecho En Mexico offers ample indoor seating and an amazing back courtyard area, per its site. The Carnegie page sets out an Original option with unlimited drinks and unlimited tacos, excluding birria and pastor, for 90 minutes, and a Lite option with unlimited drinks and one main meal for 70 minutes, every Saturday and Sunday. The site lists Sunday to Thursday 11.30am to 9.30pm and Friday and Saturday 11.30am to 10:00pm. Its sample menu marks vegan friendly options with VGO, though it says items vary by location and we could not read a Carnegie price.

Talk-ability: The site lists a back courtyard as well as indoor seating, so ask when you book which one suits a quieter chat.

Murrumbeena Wine Bar — 77-79 Murrumbeena Road, Murrumbeena VIC 3163

Murrumbeena Wine Bar sits just outside Carnegie, and its own home page lists Tuesday to Thursday 3 - 11PM and Friday and Saturday 3 - 1AM, closed Sunday and Monday, though other listings give different times. A 2022 Broadsheet listing says the venue seats 100 across the main bar, a sunny outdoor courtyard and a private dining room. The third-party site thehappiesthour.com lists a Free Cheese Tuesday from 5pm and a happy hour with French wine, pints and cheese, updated in August 2026. AGFG lists it with a Romantic feature tag, and an older Broadsheet entry lists reservations, a bottle shop and a dog-friendly outdoor area.

Say this: Ask whether the courtyard is open when you book, since Broadsheet lists reservations and an outdoor courtyard but its entry is old.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the places’ own websites, the Australian Good Food Guide, koornangroad.com.au and Broadsheet.
