Correction (4 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

This page lists seven cafes for a sit-down breakfast: three in Collingwood, two in Fitzroy, one in Clifton Hill and one in the Melbourne city centre.

Each one carries a breakfast tag or says breakfast on its own site. We read hours and menus from AGFG, the venues’ own sites and OpenStreetMap, and we print a price only where a menu page printed one.

Hours change, so check before you go.

AGFG tags Proud Mary, at 172 Oxford Street, with Breakfast, Alfresco Dining, Child Friendly, Pet Friendly, Gluten Free Options, Vegetarian Options and Takeaway. Its site lists Monday - Friday 7am to 3pm and Saturday - Sunday 8am to 3pm. We could not find a published menu with prices, so none are printed.

Go for: A weekday start, since the site lists 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday.

Two Birds Cafe — 29 Peel Street, Collingwood VIC 3066

Two Birds Cafe’s site prints the address as 29-31 Peel Street. AGFG tags it with Breakfast, Alfresco Dining, Child Friendly and Vegetarian Options. AGFG lists 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM on weekends. Those are undated AGFG hours, so check before visiting. We could not find a published menu with prices.

Go for: Sitting outside, since AGFG tags it for alfresco dining.

Friends of the Earth — 312 Smith Street, Collingwood VIC 3066

Friends of the Earth is at 312 Smith St, and AGFG tags it with Breakfast, Vegan Options, Vegetarian Options, Gluten Free Options and Child Friendly. The hours text from foefood.org reads Mon to Sat 9.30 - 5 and Sun 10 - 4.30. That makes it a daytime stop rather than an early one. We could not find a published menu with prices.

The order: Not published where we looked, so go by the AGFG tags for vegan and vegetarian options.

Stagger Lee’s — 276 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065

Stagger Lee’s site says: ‘Indulge in the best breakfast Melbourne has to offer.’ That is the cafe’s own claim. The site lists 7 till 3:30 Monday to Friday and 8 til 3:30 Saturday and Sunday, at 276 Brunswick St. The menu prints Free Range Eggs on Toast at $19. It prints Blueberry Lemon Curd Hotcake at $26. The menu page also prints a weekend surcharge line, so check it before a weekend visit.

On the menu (copied from staggerlees.com.au on 4 October 2026):

  • Free Range Eggs on Toast: $19
  • Avocado Toast: $23
  • Native Thyme and Macadamia Granola: $19
  • Blueberry Lemon Curd Hotcake: $26

The order: Savoury is Avocado Toast at $23, sweet is Blueberry Lemon Curd Hotcake at $26, and Native Thyme and Macadamia Granola is printed at $19.

Sir Charles — 121 Johnston Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065

Sir Charles is at 121 Johnston Street. Its site is titled ‘Sir Charles Fitzroy | Breakfast, Lunch and Takeaway | Cafe’ and lists Mon to Fri 7:30am to 3:30pm and Sat and Sun 8:00am to 4:00pm. AGFG tags it with Breakfast, Alfresco Dining, Vegan Options, Gluten Free Options and Pet Friendly. We could not find a published menu with prices.

Go for: Breakfast with a takeaway option, since both appear in the site’s own title.

Uncle Drew Cafe — 23 Groom Street, Clifton Hill VIC 3068

Uncle Drew Cafe is at 23 Groom Street, Clifton Hill. AGFG tags it with Breakfast, Gluten Free Options, Vegetarian Options and Takeaway. Its OpenStreetMap tag reads Mo-Fr 06:30-16:00 and Sa,Su 08:00-16:00, which may be out of date, and its own site prints different times, so check before you go. We could not find a published menu with prices.

Go for: An early weekday start, if the OpenStreetMap hours still hold.

Little Gordon — 24 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

Little Gordon’s site says ‘All-Day breakfast available’. It is the one entry here in the city centre, on Little Bourke Street at 24 Little Bourke Street. The site lists Open Tuesday - Sunday (excluding public holidays) 7.30 am - 3 pm. We could not find a published menu with prices.

Go for: Breakfast later in the day, since the site says it is available all day within those hours.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the Australian Good Food Guide, the places’ own websites and melbournefoe.org.au. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 4 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of food or place, not the places on this page.
