This page answers a simple question: where do you find sushi and Japanese cooking in and around Collingwood, from take-home sushi to sit-down dining? It covers seven places. Two have Collingwood addresses, four are in Fitzroy and one is in Abbotsford.
Each place was checked against at least two sources: OpenStreetMap, the Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG) and the venue’s own site where one exists. Hours appear only where a named listing prints them, and some places have none we could trust, so we leave them out. Where a menu prints a price, it is copied beside the dish; most places here print none we could read.

Toro Sushi & Poke is listed at 190-192 Smith Street, Collingwood, with OpenStreetMap and AGFG agreeing on the street and AGFG printing the range. The name pairs sushi, which is vinegared rice with a topping, with poke, a Hawaiian-style bowl of raw fish over rice. We could not find a website, a published menu or prices for this place, so the name is all we can decode.

Aka Siro — 106 Cambridge Street, Collingwood VIC 3066
Aka Siro is listed at 106 Cambridge Street, Collingwood, by both OpenStreetMap and AGFG. AGFG’s hours show 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM from Thursday to Sunday and closed Monday to Wednesday, so treat them as possibly out of date. AGFG also tags it Takeaway, Lunch, Dinner and Fully Licensed, though its hours do not show a dinner session. The only web page we found is a Facebook page, with no own site.

Tamago Sushi — 361 Smith Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Tamago Sushi is at 361 Smith Street, Fitzroy; OpenStreetMap spells it Tamogo Sushi and AGFG spells it Tamago Sushi Melbourne, with the same address in both. AGFG lists opening at 9:00 AM from Monday to Saturday, closing at 3:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday and at 3:30 PM from Wednesday to Friday, with Sunday closed. AGFG also tags Delivery. Tamago is the sweet rolled omelette found at many sushi counters, though the sources do not say what this place serves.
Menu says: we could not find a published menu, so AGFG’s Delivery tag is the one ordering clue to follow up.
Hinoki Japanese Pantry — 279 Smith Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Hinoki Japanese Pantry at 279 Smith Street, Fitzroy, is a Japanese grocery with a sushi bar. Its site says the sushi bar offers take home premium sushi and customises platters for events and other special occasions. The site lists Monday closed, Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm. AGFG tags Delivery and Takeaway, and we could not find a dine-in option stated.

Kushiro Fusion Cuisine — 175 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Kushiro Fusion Cuisine is at 175 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, and AGFG lists Monday closed and dinner from 5:00 PM Tuesday to Sunday, plus a Saturday and Sunday afternoon snack bar session with bookings essential; check current hours before you go. Its site advertises 90 minutes of bottomless bar snack and flowing sake, Tuesday to Saturday, with the price in the menu list below, so check which tables the offer covers. Kushiro’s menu prints EDAMAME at $9, tagged (gf,df,v), and CABBAGE SALAD at $12 with sesame dressing, spicy soy sauce and flying fish roe. Kushiro also prints SCAMPI TARTARE at $30 with lobster bisque panna cotta, tomato kanten and crackers; kanten is an agar jelly.

AGFG tags it Alfresco Dining, Bar, BYO, Child Friendly, Delivery and Takeaway, plus Gluten Free Options and Vegetarian Options. We could not find a published menu or prices, so check the site before ordering.

Obanzai Mama — 83 Smith Street, Fitzroy VIC 3065
Obanzai Mama is at 83 Smith Street, Fitzroy, and obanzai is a Japanese term for home-style dishes served in small portions. AGFG’s hours are irregular: Wednesday is closed, with a 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM session and an evening session listed on most other days, so confirm before you go.
