Your Weekend in Docklands
Step one: check the Marvel Stadium fixture. If there’s a game or concert, your weekend either revolves around it or actively avoids it. That’s Docklands life.
Saturday Morning
The waterfront promenade before 9am is Docklands at its best. Morning light on the harbour, minimal foot traffic, and the kind of quiet that surprises people who only know the precinct on game days. Run, walk, or cycle the loop from NewQuay to Yarra’s Edge.
Then coffee. Hardware Societe at The District for a proper sit-down brunch — the French-inspired dishes are the reason. The Quarter at NewQuay for waterfront seating and a faster, simpler morning.
Saturday Afternoon
The District Docklands for a cinema session or retail browse. Costco run if the pantry needs restocking. The library at Victoria Harbour for quiet time with harbour views — genuinely one of Melbourne’s best free spaces.
If the weather’s good: kayaking or paddleboarding from the NewQuay marina. Getting on the water is the activity that makes Docklands feel like a different city.
Saturday Night
Dinner on the waterfront — Berth at NewQuay for steaks and harbour views, or Cargo Hall on Harbour Esplanade for something more considered. Post-dinner drinks at Hightail’s rooftop or the Woolshed’s beer garden.
If the precinct feels quiet (non-event weekends), walk 10 minutes into the CBD for deeper bar options. The Bourke Street bridge delivers you into the city’s laneway bar scene within 15 minutes door to door.
Sunday
The slow Docklands Sunday. Coffee at the NewQuay waterfront. Ron Barassi Snr Park for a casual kick or a walk. The Yarra’s Edge promenade for afternoon light on the river. Docklands does lazy Sundays well when the wind doesn’t interfere.
