Correction (1 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed eleven “Indian” venues in Glen Waverley that we could not find at any source we checked, with invented addresses, prices and seat counts, under Mount Waverley’s postcode (3149) instead of Glen Waverley’s (3150), and it claimed every pick had been tested in person. Community context: at the 2021 Census, 8.0 per cent of Glen Waverley’s 42,642 residents were born in India and 5.3 per cent in Sri Lanka, and Sinhalese (4.0 per cent), Tamil (3.0 per cent) and Hindi (2.7 per cent) were all among the top languages used at home. Mandarin, at 23.3 per cent, is the most common of them.
That mix is what you find on the menus below: a Punjabi street-food kitchen and a South Indian chain branch on the same stretch of Blackburn Road, a tandoor house that dates itself to 2010, a Sri Lankan and North Indian dining room that runs hopper nights, and a modern regional Indian diner on the third floor of Kingsway Central. Gunpowder Social — Level 3, Kingsway Central, 73-75 Kingsway, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
An “Indian DinerBar and Terrace” on the third floor of Kingsway Central, with a dining room and a Skybar terrace, whose own site says the kitchen “reads regional India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari”. The menu names its signature as the Gunpowder Girl ($28), chicken in a spicy podi masala; podi is the dry-roasted lentil, chilli and spice powder of South India, often nicknamed “gunpowder”. On the menu: Chettinad Chicks ($34), chicken in the coconut, curry-leaf and black-pepper style of Tamil Nadu’s Chettinad region; butter chicken ($34); Dal Alla Bukhara ($31), slow-cooked black lentils; chicken dum biryani ($39), rice and chicken sealed under dough so they steam together; and garlic naan ($9). It is closed on Tuesdays, and the menu notes that prices are indicative and may change.

Monash Curry n Tandoor — 9 Glenwood Avenue, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
A North Indian dine-in and takeaway house that says it has been cooking in the area since 2010, with its own online ordering for pickup and, at dinner time, delivery. The tandoor is the clay oven at the heart of North Indian cooking, run far hotter than a home oven, and its ordering page lists a half tandoori chicken at $16.40 and a full bird at $28.40. On the menu: chicken tikka ($15.40), boneless chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices and cooked in the tandoor; aloo bonda ($9.50 for three), spiced potato balls fried in chickpea batter; and a lunch box of rice and roti for $13.90. For two, the set “Menu for 2” ($47.90) bundles pappadums, samosas, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, saffron rice, naan and raita.

Elephant Corridor — 179 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
The one kitchen on this list that cooks two cuisines side by side: its own site bills it as “North Indian & Sri-Lankan Cuisine In Glen Waverley”, and with 5.3 per cent of the suburb born in Sri Lanka, that pairing makes sense here. Hoppers, the bowl-shaped crepes of fermented rice flour and coconut milk, get their own Hopper Nights every Sunday and Monday night, and chilli mud crab runs from Thursday night onwards. On the menu: the string hopper kotthu ($30.90), string hoppers (steamed nests of rice noodles) wok-chopped with your choice of meat, onion, chilli and omelette and served with gravy; Hot Butter Prawns ($32.00), battered prawns tossed with garlic, green chillies and Ceylon spices; and, from the North Indian side, a gluten-free chicken tikka ($17.90 for three pieces) and onion bhaji ($14.90). Patiala Shahi — 210 Blackburn Rd, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
Named for the Punjabi city, and its own site says the menu is inspired by “the royal kitchens of Patiala”. The menu opens with street food: the DIY pani puri ($15) is eight hollow puris you fill yourself with onion, potato, chickpeas, mint, yoghurt and tamarind; papri chaat ($16) is crisp flour crackers under potato, chickpeas, yoghurt and chutney. On the menu: choley bhatura ($19), deep-fried puffed bread with spiced chickpeas, pickle and raita, a Punjabi favourite; Amritsari kulcha ($20), a stuffed white-flour flatbread from Amritsar served with chickpeas; biryani ($18) with paneer, chicken, lamb or goat; and paneer butter masala ($22). It is closed on Mondays and its own site lists delivery within 12 km, naming Wheelers Hill, Mount Waverley and Burwood East among the suburbs.

Swagath Grand Glen Waverley — 218 Blackburn Rd, Glen Waverley VIC 3150
A branch of the Swagath Grand group, also on Blackburn Road, and the place on this list for South Indian food: its ordering menu has separate sections for idly and vada, dosa and uthappam, alongside veg and non-veg biryani. Only the soups and chaat load on the web, so the cheap end is where the prices are. On the menu: pav bhaji ($10.95), a buttery mashed-vegetable curry with soft toasted bread rolls, the street food of Mumbai; papadi chaat ($8.95); pani puri ($9.95), here filled with spiced white-pea ragada; and a single samosa for $3.95. Its own location page lists its hours as Thursday to Wednesday, 12 to 11 PM.
