Cheap eats work best when you can read the price. This page covers five places in and around Lower Plenty: two in Templestowe, two in Montmorency and one in Eltham, split between cafes and fish and chip shops.
Only one of the five has a menu price we could copy exactly, so Cafe 130 gets the price lines and the rest get hours, listings and the honest note that we could not read a price. Each place was checked against at least two sources, and menus change, so confirm with the venue.

Were Street Food Store — 30 Were Street, Montmorency VIC 3094
We could not read a menu price here, so there is no dollar figure on this entry. The store’s own site lists Mon-Fri 6am-3pm and Sat-Sun 7am-3pm. AGFG lists it as Child Friendly and Takeaway. A solid early stop for a takeaway, going by those hours.
What it is: A Montmorency cafe with a takeaway listing, so ask what is on when you order.
Aegean Wave Fish & Chips — 136 Bolton Street, Eltham VIC 3095
No price we could read. Aegean Wave’s ordering site lists store hours of 11:30am - 8:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, with Friday running to 8:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday shown as closed. The site describes the place as a family-run kitchen making comfort food that reminds you of the coast.
The move: Check the site’s live store hours before you go, because two days are listed as closed.
Shark Tank Seafood — 55 Anderson St, Templestowe VIC 3106
No price we could read, and we have not printed opening hours, so this entry stays short. The shop’s own site gives its address as 2/55 Anderson St, Templestowe, and it is tagged as a fish and chips takeaway. None of the pages we read show a date, so the details may be out of date.
What it is: A fish and chip shop; confirm hours and prices with the shop directly.
Espresso 3094 — 44 Were Street, Montmorency VIC 3094
No price we could read. AGFG lists Espresso 3094 as Child Friendly, Takeaway, Breakfast and Alfresco Dining, and those are listing features, not our own findings. We could not confirm opening hours from a source we trust, and the site pages we read are undated.
