This page answers where you can train near Mckinnon: at a gym with published prices and hours, or outdoors at a park. It covers five places in and around Mckinnon, three in Bentleigh and two in Ormond.
Two are Rec Xpress 24/7 gyms, one in Bentleigh and one in Ormond. The other three are council parks: EE Gunn Reserve, Halley Park and Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve.
We judge the gyms on listed price and listed hours, and the parks on what the council or another published page says about outdoor equipment. Each place was checked at two independent sources.

Rec Xpress 24/7 Fitness Bentleigh — 378-380 Centre Rd, Bentleigh VIC 3204
The gym’s own site says the gym is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for members. It describes the branch as newly upgraded and lists toilets, showers, a hand basin, a hand dryer and a chilled water fountain.
The site also prints staffed hours: Monday to Thursday 10AM to 1PM and 3PM to 7PM, Friday and Saturday 9AM to 1PM. That block is the staffed roster, not the member access hours. We have not described the equipment here, so check the gym’s own page for what it lists.

Rec Xpress 24/7 Fitness Ormond — 574A North Rd, Ormond VIC 3204
Rec Xpress 24/7 Fitness Ormond is described on its own site as a newly refurbished 24/7 gym. The site says the gym is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for members.
Its staffed hours are printed as Monday to Thursday 10AM to 1PM and 3PM to 7PM, Friday and Saturday 9AM to 1PM. As in Bentleigh, that is the staffed roster rather than access hours.

Season runs: Members’ access, per the gym’s site, is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
EE Gunn Reserve — Corner Foch and Malane Streets, Ormond VIC 3204
The council says EE Gunn Reserve is home to Ormond Cricket Club, Ormond Glenhuntly Baseball Club and Ormond Tennis Club. It also says the eastern ovals, closest to the railway line, are off-leash areas.
The council says most of the playground is under shade cloth and that BBQ facilities are near the picnic shelter. The page’s recreation list is tagged outdoor gym in our records, but the line we could read only says “many opportunities for recreation, including:”, so we cannot confirm any fitness equipment here.
Home ground: Cricket, baseball and tennis clubs, per the council. We could not find fees or age groups for any of them.
Halley Park — Jasper Road, Bentleigh VIC 3204
Melbourne Playgrounds describes the outdoor gym at Halley Park this way: “A lot of exercise equipment is packed into a compact area including six stretching and limbering exercises plus strengthening exercises”. The council describes the park as just around the corner from Patterson train station.
The council prints Jasper Road as the address, and the park sits a little further out from Mckinnon than the other entries. We found no entry price for it.
Get involved: Melbourne Playgrounds gives 2 Ethel Street, Bentleigh as the spot for the outdoor gym, so use that address if the park entrance confuses you.
Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve — Higgins Road, Bentleigh VIC 3204
The council says Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve is home to three significantly varied playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment and extensive open spaces with walking paths. It says there are BBQ facilities and toilets near the picnic shelter.
We found no price or class timetable for the reserve, so the criteria here are the council’s own listed features.

Are the Rec Xpress gyms staffed all day?
