Correction (5 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 5 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

Every place on this page has a Mernda address. The question here is the early start: who opens first, what the breakfast menu prints, and where we could not read a price at all.

Four places had enough on the public record to list. Two are bakery cafes, Turner’s on Schotters Road and Zet & Zaatar in Mernda Town Centre. The other two are cafes, Split Bean in Mernda Village and Station Grind in the town centre. Hours come from each place’s own site where it has one, and from the Mernda Town Centre directory otherwise. Listings disagree for some of them, so check before you go. Plenty of brekkie to choose from, so pick a lane: sweet or savoury.

Turner’s Bakehouse Eatery — 107 Schotters Road, Mernda VIC 3754

Turner’s Bakehouse Eatery says its menu ‘offers inspired fresh seasonal food for breakfast, brunch or lunch’. Its website gives the hours as ’every day from 8am til 3pm’. AGFG’s header shows different weekend hours, so check before you go.

The bakery side is the venue’s own pitch: its site says ‘artisan sourdough and outstanding handmade cakes and pastries’. AGFG’s listing describes artisan sour dough using a natural yeast, baked in the 122 year old woodfired Scotch oven, and tags the place ‘Child Friendly’ and ‘Alfresco Dining’. For its high teas, the site says vegetarian and gluten free options can be arranged, and asks you to advise dietary requirements at the time of booking. The site we read has no menu page and no prices, which is why this entry carries no dollar figure.

Go for: the site’s own promise of seasonal breakfast, brunch or lunch food; we could not read a menu, so ask about dishes when you book.

Zet & Zaatar Bakery (Mernda Town Centre) — T36/180 Riverdale Boulevard, Mernda VIC 3754

The Mernda Town Centre directory lists Zet & Zaatar as open ‘Everyday - 6:30am - 4:00pm’. The brand’s site describes its breakfast as ‘a hearty spread of freshly baked bread, free-range eggs your way - with vegetables, spiced meat, or sujuk’. Sujuk is a spiced sausage. The Mernda store’s menu page prints Sujuk, Egg and Cheese at $8.50 in its Bakery section, and Plain Eggs at $11.90 is the first item in its Breakfast section.

The same page prints Zaatar at $3.50 and Cheese Pie at $5.50, the lowest prices in this guide. The site says its barista coffee is ‘crafted with our signature Medici Blend’.

On the menu (copied from zetandzaatar.com.au/menu-6 on 5 October 2026):

  • Sujuk, Egg and Cheese: $8.50
  • Plain Eggs: $11.90
  • Zaatar: $3.50
  • Cheese Pie: $5.50

Roaster: the brand’s homepage names a ‘signature Medici Blend’ and we did not record a roaster name, so ask at the counter.

Split Bean Cafe — Shop 1/59 Mernda Village Drive, Mernda VIC 3754

Split Bean’s own website gives its hours as Monday to Friday 6:00am to 3:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday 7:30am to 2:30pm. Other listings, including AGFG and the Mernda Village centre page, print different hours, so check before you go. The site calls it a ‘cozy local favourite known for smooth coffee, fancy breakfasts, and diverse brunch dishes’.

The menu prints Eggs Your Way On Toast at $13.90: poached, fried or scrambled on two slices of organic sourdough toast. Toast or Raisin Toast is $9 for two slices of organic Dench sourdough. The Deluxe Breakfast Burger is $16.90, with bacon, fried eggs, cheese, tomato relish, caramelized onion, rocket and aioli in a brioche bun. The homepage lists a Tradie breakfast for only $10, and the page we read printed no terms for it. The site also lists ‘Get 7th coffee free’, and the Mernda Village page says that applies if you carry the cafe’s coffee cards.

On the menu (copied from splitbeancafe.com.au on 5 October 2026):

  • Eggs Your Way On Toast: $13.90
  • Toast or Raisin Toast: $9
  • Deluxe Breakfast Burger: $16.90
  • Tradie breakfast: $10

The order: Eggs Your Way On Toast at $13.90 for a plain start, or the Deluxe Breakfast Burger at $16.90 if you want a burger.

Station Grind — T26/180 Riverdale Boulevard, Mernda VIC 3754

The Mernda Town Centre directory lists Station Grind’s hours as Mon - Fri - 5:30am - 4:00pm, Sat - 7:00am - 4:00pm and Sun - 8:00am - 3:00pm. AGFG lists it as a Cafe.

That is the extent of what we could verify. In our checks we found no website of its own and no menu or prices, so this entry covers hours only.

Go for: the 5:30am weekday opening, the earliest listed on this page; confirm by phone first, as the directory gives a number for the shop.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 5 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the places’ own websites, the Australian Good Food Guide, merndatowncentre.au and merndavillage.com.au. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 5 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go.
