A park is a list of facilities before it is anything else, so this page starts with the list. Each entry below takes its facilities from the council that runs the park (Banyule or Nillumbik), with a second source for the park itself. Six parks made the page, and only two of them are in Montmorency: Montmorency Park and Petrie Park. Two more are in Greensborough and two are in Eltham, so this is a guide to parks in and around Montmorency.
None of the council pages we read gave a trail length, grade or opening hours, so this page prints no distances or hours. Where a council names toilets, a barbecue or a dog rule, the entry says so in the council’s words and names the council.

Montmorency Park — 93 Para Road, Montmorency VIC 3094
Banyule Council says the reserve “has 2 sporting ovals, tennis courts and a playground” and that “Public toilets are located by the car park.” It also describes “notable manna gums, trees that form part of the wildlife corridor connecting the Plenty and Yarra rivers.” Wikipedia places a playing field and clubhouse at Montmorency Park “in the green belt between Para Road and the Plenty River.” The council page says nothing about dogs, barbecues or opening hours, so we say nothing about them either.

Petrie Park — 12-28 Mountain View Road, Montmorency VIC 3094
Banyule lists the park’s features as “Play equipment Tennis court Bowls Public toilets Cricket pitch Football pitch Oval”. Wikipedia describes Mountain View Road as having an RSL that serves counter meals, a lawn bowls club and the Montmorency Scout Hall, with access to the Petrie Park Oval opposite them.
Start at: Mountain View Road, the street the council gives for the address.
Central Park (Greensborough) — 63-67 Plenty Lane, Greensborough VIC 3088
This one is in Greensborough, not Montmorency, and it is on the page because it sits in the same Banyule council area. The council’s feature line reads “Play equipment Tennis court Public toilets Barbecues Cricket pitch Pavilion/hall Oval Soccer pitch”. It is the one park in the Banyule set that lists barbecues.

Willinda Park — 21A Talbot Street, Greensborough VIC 3088
Willinda Park is also in Greensborough. Banyule’s feature line for it reads “Walking/bike trails Public toilets Pavilion/hall”. The wording points to a trail park more than a play park, though we read no trail length, grade or surface, so we cannot tell you how long a loop is.
Distance / grade / surface: the council’s feature line names walking and bike trails and gives no length, grade or surface, so we print none.
Alistair Knox Park — 829 Main Road, Eltham VIC 3095
Nillumbik Council says the park is “Located in the heart of Eltham” and “features a playground, picnic tables, BBQs, several artistic sculptures and a section of the Heidelberg School Artist’s Trail.” Wikipedia’s Eltham entry adds a duck pond and toilets to the facilities. The council’s parking line reads “Multiple accessible angled parking bays in sealed car park”. On dogs, the council says you can bring one “but they must be on a leash, except where signed. They are not allowed within five metres of a playground or BBQ.”

Eltham Lower Park — Main Road, Eltham VIC 3095
The council describes “Two playgrounds -Eltham Copper Butterfly Playspace and Eltham Lower Park playground” and “a ridable miniature railway located at Eltham Lower Park.” For dogs, the council says “the back oval (also referred to as oval number two or South oval, which is a fenced off-leash dog area)” is the place for off-lead dogs, and the same page says dogs are not permitted in either playground at any time. The page’s facility list includes “BBQ”, “Picnic Tables” and “Toilets”.

Two: Montmorency Park at 93 Para Road and Petrie Park at 12-28 Mountain View Road. Central Park and Willinda Park are in Greensborough, and Alistair Knox Park and Eltham Lower Park are in Eltham.
Which of these parks have barbecues?
Banyule lists “Barbecues” in the feature line for Central Park, and Nillumbik lists “BBQs” for Alistair Knox Park. Nillumbik’s facility list for Eltham Lower Park also includes “BBQ”. The council pages for Montmorency Park, Petrie Park and Willinda Park did not mention barbecues, so check those before you plan a cook-up.
Which of these parks have playgrounds?
Montmorency Park, Petrie Park, Central Park, Alistair Knox Park and Eltham Lower Park all have a playground or play equipment on their council page. Willinda Park’s feature line lists trails, toilets and a pavilion or hall, with no playground.
Can I bring my dog?
It depends on the park. Nillumbik says dogs at Alistair Knox Park must be on a leash, except where signed, and not within five metres of a playground or BBQ. At Eltham Lower Park, the council describes a fenced off-leash dog area on the back oval and says dogs are not permitted in the two playgrounds.
