A pub’s website tells you a lot about its outdoor space, if you read the wording. This page lines up four places in and around Nunawading, one in Nunawading and three in Mitcham, by what each publishes about gardens, decks and outdoor seating, plus tap, trivia and happy-hour details.
Only some use the words beer garden, so we say which. Burvale Hotel and The Foragers Drop do. Mitcham Hotel calls its outdoor area a deck, and Mitcham Social is tagged with outdoor seating on OpenStreetMap. Each place was checked against two sources.

Burvale Hotel — Cnr Springvale Road & Burwood Highway, Nunawading VIC 3131
The Burvale Hotel’s site invites you to ‘soak in the rays in our beer garden’, which is the venue’s own beer-garden wording. It also says ‘Our Brew Bar offers a large selection of beers on tap’ and mentions a pool table with ‘challenge your mates to a game of pool’. Its general opening hours read 10:00am to 04:00am, Monday to Sunday, and AGFG lists live music with no gig dates we could find. We could not find a published tap list or a heating statement.
Garden: The site names a beer garden but gives no detail on seating, shade or heaters, so ring before you plan around it, mate.
The Foragers Drop — 499A Whitehorse Road, Mitcham VIC 3132
The Foragers Drop’s site describes ‘a pool table, a beer garden area, eclectic seating to suit any group’ and claims ’the biggest selection of Tapped beer, wine and spirits in the Eastern Suburbs’, which is its claim, not ours. It lists Monday to Wednesday from 4pm to 10pm, Thursday to Saturday from 12pm to 1am, and Sunday from 2pm to 10pm. Its deals are listed by day: Tight Arse Mondays with $6 shots and $10 pints of Lagery Lager and Pale Ale, a Friday happy hour from 6pm to 8pm, $8 basic spirits on Saturday from 6pm to 8pm, and $4 pots on Sunday from 6pm. The site says it encourages meals from any other provider to be brought in and eaten on site.

Mitcham Hotel — 556 Whitehorse Road, Mitcham VIC 3132
The Mitcham Hotel’s site invites you to ’enjoy the relaxed atmosphere overlooking the Dandenongs on the deck’, so its own word is deck, not beer garden. It lists a ‘contemporary Sports Bar with full TAB and Sportsbet facilities’, a kids menu and an indoor play area, and says you can ‘Book a table online’. Its general opening hours are 10:00am to 4:00am every day, and AGFG lists live music with no gig dates we could find.
Go on a: Day you can trust the weather, because the deck is the outdoor space the site names and the hours start at 10:00am.
Mitcham Social — 1 Thornton Crescent, Mitcham VIC 3132
OpenStreetMap tags Mitcham Social with outdoor_seating=yes, and we could not find beer-garden wording on its own site. Its site lists ‘FREE TRIVIA NIGHT 6.30pm Every Wednesday’ and live music ’every Sunday’ from 1pm to 5pm, with a dated artist list on its live-music page. It also lists a $25 Lunch Menu from Tuesday to Friday, 12-4pm, and a ‘special area for kids to play’.

Check with the venue before bringing outside food anywhere other than The Foragers Drop.
