Date night does not have to mean cocktails. This page sorts five sit-down places in and around Nunawading by what each one publishes: its own hours, what it says about itself, and menu prices where we could read them. Four are in Nunawading and one, Sapporo, is in Mitcham.
Three carry date-night wording on their own sites: Squires Loft, Masala Craze and Burvale Hotel. Pizzeria Romana and Sapporo list only evening hours, so they suit a planned dinner more than a spur-of-the-moment one. Each place gets a labelled line with a plan B.
We cross-checked each venue with a minimum of two separate sources. Where a venue does not publish something, we say so rather than guess.

Squires Loft Nunawading — Shop 54, 288 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading VIC 3131
Squires Loft’s own site calls the place ’the perfect spot for family dinners, business lunches, or a romantic evening out’, and AGFG tags it ‘Fully Licensed’. That wording is the venue’s pitch, so treat it as a pitch. Its trading hours list evenings from 5:30pm to 10:00pm on Monday and Tuesday, with lunch from 12:00pm to 3:00pm added on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and the page says public holidays are closed. The menu sits on external links, so we could not read prices.
Stage: A third date or an anniversary dinner, since its own site pitches an evening out; plan B is lunch on the days its hours listing includes one.
Masala Craze Authentic Nepalese & Indian Restaurant — 147 Springvale Road, Nunawading VIC 3131
Masala Craze’s site talks about ‘a quiet dinner for two or a grand celebration’ and lists ‘Reservation’ on the page. Its own hours run Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 10 PM, with Saturday and Sunday split into 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. OpenStreetMap carries different hours, so check the site before you go. OpenStreetMap also tags it wheelchair=yes and outdoor_seating=no, and we could not read menu prices because the menu is images and an ordering app.
Talk-ability: The site pitches a quiet dinner for two and we could not find live music listed; plan B is takeaway, which OpenStreetMap tags as available.
Pizzeria Romana — 12/14 Market Street, Nunawading VIC 3131
Pizzeria Romana’s site calls it a ‘WOODFIRED ARTISAN ROMAN PIZZA RESTAURANT’, and AGFG tags it ‘Child Friendly’ with ‘warm, family-friendly charm’, so it reads as an easy, low-stakes dinner rather than a formal one. Its site lists Wednesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm, Sunday from 5 pm to 9 pm, and Monday and Tuesday closed. The dine-in menu prints MARGHERITA at $19 and MUSHROOM & TRUFFLE OIL at $24. The site says it is fully licenced with no BYO, and AGFG lists vegetarian options.

Split or splurge: At Pizzeria Romana, a MARGHERITA at $19 and a PUMPKIN & RICOTTA at $22 shared between two keeps it a split rather than a splurge.
Burvale Hotel — Cnr Springvale Road & Burwood Highway, Nunawading VIC 3131
The Burvale Hotel’s site says its bistro is the place to ‘grab a meal with your family, catch up with friends or for a date night’, and lists the Family Bistro as open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Its general opening hours read 10:00am to 04:00am, Monday to Sunday. AGFG lists live music, but we could not find gig dates, so ask before you book if you want a quiet table. We could not read menu prices.
Say this: When you ring, ask ‘Is there live music on the night we are coming?’, because AGFG lists it and the site gives no dates.
Sapporo Japanese Restaurant — Unit 1/432-438 Mitcham Road, Mitcham VIC 3132
Sapporo’s site lists dinner only: Tuesday to Sunday from 17:45 to 21:30, with Monday closed. AGFG and OpenStreetMap give different hours, so confirm before you go. The site says it offers BYO wine and that you will find it ‘right by Mitcham train station’, and AGFG tags it ‘Child Friendly’. Note that it is in Mitcham, not Nunawading. Its take-away menu PDF prints GYOZA at $14 and YAKITORI at $15, so dine-in prices may differ.
