Correction (1 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed “Indian” venues in Ormond, from Nell to Ash’s, that we cannot find anywhere, with prices, seat counts and parking tips that had no source, under a postcode that is not Ormond’s (Ormond is 3204). It also claimed the places had been visited, which they had not. It has been rewritten from scratch: every restaurant below was checked against its own website, ordering page or official social account, and against a second listing wherever one exists, on 1 October 2026, and every price was copied from the venue’s own ordering menu.
Ormond’s Indian food is a North Road story. All four kitchens on this page are on the same road, between number 555A and number 636, and between them they cover a surprising spread of the subcontinent: a North Indian tandoor house that says it has been cooking since 1994, a menu with dosa and Andhra-style biryanis, a Gujarati home-style vegetarian kitchen, and a pure-vegetarian newcomer that opened its doors in August 2026.
Community context: at the 2021 Census, India was the most common country of birth in Ormond after Australia: 500 residents, or 6.0 per cent, against 4.0 per cent across Victoria. Hindi was used at home by 1.6 per cent of residents. The four menus below could hardly be more different from one another, which makes the strip a good place to learn the regions.
The precinct: North Road, Ormond. Bombay Club is at 564, Namaste Haifa at 555A, Maa at 628 and Spice Coconut at 636. Menus move, so give the ordering pages a squiz before you head out.

A long-standing name on the road, by its own account. Bombay Club’s own site says it has been “introducing guests to the colour and flavour of Indian culture since 1994” and describes the kitchen as North Indian, and its menu is built around the tandoor, the clay oven that chars meat and blisters bread. On its online pick-up menu the half tandoori chicken, which the menu calls “our most popular tandoori dish”, is $18.50; chicken butter cream, tandoori chicken finished in a tomato, cashew and cream sauce, is $27.45; and the Goan fish, cooked in coconut milk and a paste of spices, is $30.80.
On the menu: dal makhani, $22.95, black lentils and kidney beans slow-cooked with butter and cream, which the menu sweetly calls “a happy marriage”. Garlic naan is $6.20. The prices on the menu page of its main website are different from the online ordering menu, so confirm when you order. Its site lists dinner Tuesday to Sunday, plus lunch on Fridays.

The menu to read if you want South Indian food. A dosa is a thin crepe of fermented rice and lentil batter, cooked until crisp; Spice Coconut’s is $14.95, and its dosa thali, $22.95, puts a masala dosa beside two idli (steamed rice cakes) and a vada (a savoury lentil doughnut) with coconut and tomato chutney. The menu also carries dishes associated with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: gongura, a curry soured with roselle (sorrel) leaves, is $16.95, and the biryanis include an avakai version made with spicy pickled mango.
On the menu: haleem, $20.95, a slow-cooked stew of meat, lentils and spices that the menu calls its special dish; dum biryani, listed at $16.95, rice sealed and slow-cooked in layers (the menu lists veg, chicken, goat, fish or prawn and shows a single price); and chole batura, $21.95, spiced chickpeas with puffed fried bread. The site says the restaurant is fully liquor licensed, that it delivers within 5 km of the shop, and that it is closed on Tuesdays.
Start with: the dosa thali, $22.95.

A menu unlike the others on the strip. Every dish on its online ordering menu is vegetarian, and the kitchen describes itself as “woman-owned and woman-led”. Its own site says it blends family recipes “with strictly Kosher standards”, and the ordering menu has whole sections of Kathiyawadi, Gujarati, Jain and Swaminarayan food, styles that, in plain terms, are home cooking from Gujarat in western India, with the Jain and Swaminarayan dishes made to those communities’ dietary rules (the menu labels its Jain dal “Cooked With Jain Indian Spices”). The full thali is $20.00: two curries with four roti, rice and salad. The one curry meal, one curry with four fulka (thin puffed roti), is $15.00, and the Thali Special section has combos such as dal makhani with paratha for $14.00.
On the menu: pani puri, $10.00, listed as “Calcutta Puchka”: hollow, crisp puris you fill with spiced, tangy water and eat in one go. Gujarati dhebra, a spinach and fenugreek wheat snack, is $11.00. The Choviyar tiffin, $23.00, is marked “(Before Sunset)”, for diners who keep the Jain practice of not eating after dark. Its site lists 5pm to 11pm, seven days.
Start with: the full thali, $20.00.
Maa Indian Restaurant — 628 North Rd, Ormond VIC 3204
The newest kitchen on the road. Maa announced on its Instagram account on 21 August 2026 that “Our doors are open”, describing itself as “100% pure vegetarian”, with dine-in, takeaway and delivery, and “Open 7 days a week till 11 PM”. Its Facebook page calls it a destination “for fresh, pure vegetarian Indian cuisine in Ormond, VIC”.
On the menu: we could not find a menu or prices online on 1 October 2026; its launch post says to follow the account for it. If you are after a pure-vegetarian Indian meal, that account is the place to watch.
Start with: ask what is cooking that day.

How we checked
On 1 October 2026 we read each restaurant’s own website, its online ordering menu or its official Instagram and Facebook accounts, and copied every item and price exactly as printed. Bombay Club’s prices come from its online pick-up menu at bombayclub-online.com.au, which it runs through TuckerFox; the menu page on its main site shows different prices. Spice Coconut’s come from the product feed of the ordering store on its own website, and Namaste Haifa’s from the NextOrder ordering page linked from its site. We confirmed each address at a second listing: the Australian Good Food Guide for Bombay Club and Everything Indian for Spice Coconut and Namaste Haifa. Maa Indian Restaurant has no website yet, so its details come from its own Instagram and Facebook accounts. Census figures are from the ABS 2021 QuickStats for Ormond. Online prices can differ from counter prices. The photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of dish, not the restaurant’s own food.
