Correction (5 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

This guide reports what each venue says about vegan food, and nothing beyond it. It covers six places: four in Parkville, one in Kensington and one in North Melbourne. Few verified venues sit in Parkville itself, so the list reaches out to nearby suburbs.

For each place you get the markers and statements exactly as published, a note on whose listing they come from, and one question to ask. A menu marker or a directory tag is the venue’s own description. It is not a guarantee for allergies or coeliac needs.

Each place was confirmed at two independent sources. Where a price was readable it is shown next to its item, and where it was not we say so.

Little Mylk Bar: Tasty Vegan Streetfood — University Plaza, University of Melbourne, Parkville VIC 3052

Little Mylk Bar is a food van at University Plaza. Its site states: “Our menu is 100% vegan. All menu items are made from plant-based products.” It also says it serves gluten-free vegan sweets, from carrot cake and muffins to lamingtons and choc chip cookies. AGFG lists gluten-free options, takeaway and breakfast. Trading times on its site change by semester and may not be current, so confirm before you go rather than relying on a fixed schedule here. On the drinks menu, the Babychino is $1, the Espresso is $3.50 and the Piccolo is $4.

Ask: The site calls its sweets gluten-free, but we could not find a kitchen statement, so ask how they are prepared if you need to avoid gluten.

Ho Ho’s Canteen — 13 Royal Parade, Parkville VIC 3052

Ho Ho’s Canteen is on Royal Parade. The University of Melbourne page describes a range of lunch options including salads, sandwiches and felafel, along with coffee and sweet treats, and prints the markers VO VGO HO after the description. We have not decoded those markers here, so check the university’s key. The university lists hours of Monday–Friday: 7.30am–3.30pm. The university page puts it at the Grainger Museum, while AGFG shows Union House, so we rely on the university page and OpenStreetMap for the location.

Menu markers: The university page prints VO VGO HO, so ask at the counter what each marker means for the dish in front of you.

Thailander — Building 168, New Student Precinct, University of Melbourne, Parkville VIC 3052

Thailander is a Thai counter inside Building 168 in the New Student Precinct. The University of Melbourne page lists “GF, vegetarian and vegan options” for it. Its own site gives hours of MON-FRI: 10:00 TO 19:00. The university page lists a different closing time, so check both before a late visit. We could not find a menu with readable prices, so no price is shown.

Ask: The university page names gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options but not which dishes, so ask which items carry each label.

Campus Canteen — 201 Grattan Street, Parkville VIC 3052

Campus Canteen’s university page describes healthy, hearty meals that rotate daily and prints the markers GFO VO VGO HO. A separate line on the same page says: “Entirely nut-free menu with gluten-free, vegan and halal options.” The nut-free statement comes from the university’s page, so confirm it at the counter if nuts are a concern. Trading hours are listed as Monday–Friday: 8.30am–7.30pm. Because the meals rotate, the vegan option on any given day may differ.

The safe order: The page does not name a fixed vegan dish, so ask what the vegan meal is on the day you visit.

The Abyssinian — 277 Racecourse Road, Kensington VIC 3031

The Abyssinian is an Ethiopian restaurant on Racecourse Road in Kensington. Its site states: “Food Halal, vegan options, gluten-free with a day’s notice.” The Veg platter Vegan is $52 for two, dine in. The site lists Open Monday to Saturday, 5:30pm to 10pm, and Closed Sundays, and says it is fully licensed with BYO wine welcome.

On the menu (copied from theabyssinian.com.au on 4 October 2026):

  • Veg platter Vegan (for two, dine in): $52

Ask: Gluten-free needs a day’s notice according to the site, so raise it when you book rather than at the table.

Mum Mum — 67 Flemington Road, North Melbourne VIC 3051

Mum Mum is an Asian street food restaurant on Flemington Road in North Melbourne. AGFG lists it as having Vegan Options, Vegetarian Options, Gluten Free Options and Dairy Free, which are venue-supplied directory tags, not verified fact. Its own site describes Asian takeaway in North Melbourne. AGFG’s listed hours are Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with Sunday closed. We could not read a menu price, so none is shown.

Menu markers: None are published in what we could read, so ask which dishes the listed vegan options actually cover.

Quick answers

Is there a fully vegan place in Parkville?

Little Mylk Bar, a food van listed at University Plaza, states on its site: “Our menu is 100% vegan. All menu items are made from plant-based products.” The other five places list vegan options rather than a fully vegan menu, so they are better for mixed groups.

Where can I get vegan food at the University of Melbourne?

Four places in this guide sit on the campus: Little Mylk Bar, Ho Ho’s Canteen, Thailander and Campus Canteen. The university page marks Ho Ho’s Canteen with VO VGO HO and lists vegan options for Thailander. Campus Canteen’s page lists vegan options too, and Little Mylk Bar’s site says its whole menu is vegan.

Where can I find an Ethiopian vegan platter near Parkville?

The Abyssinian on Racecourse Road in Kensington lists vegan options on its site and prints Veg platter Vegan at $52 for two, dine in. Its site lists Monday to Saturday, 5:30pm to 10pm, and says Closed Sundays.

Are the gluten-free vegan options safe for coeliacs?

We cannot say that for any place here. The Abyssinian states gluten-free with a day’s notice, the university pages list gluten-free options for Thailander and Campus Canteen, and Little Mylk Bar’s site calls its sweets gluten-free. We could not find a published cross-contact statement for these places, so a coeliac diner should ask the venue directly.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the Australian Good Food Guide, unimelb.edu.au and the places’ own websites. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 4 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
