Correction (4 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

This page answers two questions: where do you get onto the riverside paths near Richmond, and where do you find a bike shop. It covers six places in and around Richmond: three council reserves in Richmond, Yarra Bend Park in Fairfield, and two bike shops in Abbotsford.

Each reserve was checked against its council page and OpenStreetMap, and Yarra Bend Park against the Parks Victoria page as well. The bike shops were checked against their own sites and OpenStreetMap. We could not find a published distance or grade for the trail sections, so we print none. Use an official trail map for that.

The weather call is left to the Bureau of Meteorology forecast on the day.

McConchie Reserve — 320 Mary St, Richmond VIC 3121

The council describes McConchie Reserve as a small park beside the Yarra River, next to Burnley Harbour. It says the reserve also provides access to the Main Yarra Trail. The council facilities list includes a drinking fountain, seating, exercise equipment and a basketball court.

Distance / grade / surface: the council page we read gives none of the three, so check an official Main Yarra Trail map before you set out.

O’Connell Reserve — 571 Bridge Road, Richmond VIC 3121

The council calls O’Connell Reserve a green space adjoining the Yarra River, and says it is easily accessible by public transport. It states that the reserve provides access to the Main Yarra Trail and the Yarra River, including mooring for small boats at Richmond Landing. The council facilities list includes bicycle parking, a drinking fountain and seating.

Start at: the council says the park is easily accessible by public transport, so check a journey planner for the nearest stop and lock up at the listed bicycle parking.

Annettes Place — 5-11 River St, Richmond VIC 3121

Annettes Place is described by the council as a small reserve in Richmond along the Yarra River that provides access to the Main Yarra Trail. The council also calls it a spot for family picnics with a small playground. Its facilities list includes seating, tables and chairs, and a dog off-leash area.

Turn-around point: the council lists seating and tables and chairs here, which makes it a place to pause, but we found no published turn-around distance.

Yarra Bend Park — Yarra Bend Road, Fairfield VIC 3078

Parks Victoria describes Yarra Bend Park as Melbourne’s largest natural bushland park, and invites visitors to stroll or bike its many trails. It names the Dights Falls Walk among the walks on offer. The park is in Fairfield, outside Richmond. Parks Victoria is the manager, so its page is the one to read for trail conditions.

Water and toilets: the council lists public toilets, car parking, a picnic area, a playground and a barbecue for the park; we could not find a drinking fountain listed.

Curve Cycling — 1 Grosvenor Street, Abbotsford VIC 3067

Curve Cycling’s site lists a Melbourne store at 1 Grosvenor Street, Abbotsford, which is outside Richmond. Its contact page lists opening hours of Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm, and says they may vary during public holidays. OpenStreetMap carries a matching weekday tag of 09:00 to 17:00. We could not read any service prices on its pages.

Weather call: check the Bureau of Meteorology forecast, and the contact page hours, which may vary on public holidays, before you ride over.

Spokes Abbotsford — 96 Nicholson St, Abbotsford VIC 3067

Spokes Abbotsford, at 96 Nicholson St, titles its site Spokes Abbotsford Electric Bikes Melbourne. Its service menu prints Safety check & Tune-up at $99, and describes it as suited to a borrowed or second hand bike. It also prints E-Bike Fault Find / Assessment at $120, though its footer carries older years, so confirm prices with the shop. The OpenStreetMap hours tag reads 08:30 to 18:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00 to 18:00 on Wednesday and 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday, and may be out of date.

Listed prices (copied from myspokes.com.au on 4 October 2026):

  • Safety check & Tune-up: $99
  • Same Day Standard Service: $169
  • Same Day Major Service: $269
  • E-Bike Fault Find / Assessment: $120

Start at: the site’s Same Day Standard Service entry says to drop the bike off in the morning and pick it up once texted, so read that page before you ride over.

Quick answers

Where can I get onto the Main Yarra Trail in Richmond?

The council says three Richmond reserves provide access to the Main Yarra Trail: McConchie Reserve, O’Connell Reserve and Annettes Place. McConchie Reserve sits next to Burnley Harbour, O’Connell Reserve adjoins the Yarra River and Annettes Place is a small reserve along the river. We found no trail distances on those pages, so check an official map for the length of your run or ride.

Where is a bike shop near Richmond?

Both bike shops on this page are in Abbotsford, not Richmond: Curve Cycling on Grosvenor Street and Spokes Abbotsford on Nicholson Street. Curve Cycling’s contact page lists weekday and Saturday hours. Spokes Abbotsford prints a Safety check & Tune-up at $99 on its service menu, and its footer carries older years, so confirm prices with the shop.

Can you cycle the trails at Yarra Bend Park?

Parks Victoria describes Yarra Bend Park as a place for strolling or biking its many trails, and lists the Dights Falls Walk among its walks. The park is in Fairfield and Parks Victoria manages it. We found no trail lengths or grades on the pages we read, so check the Parks Victoria page for current conditions.

Where can I run with a dog by the Yarra in Richmond?

The council lists a dog off-leash area at McConchie Reserve, O’Connell Reserve and Annettes Place, and says McConchie Reserve excludes the Burnley Harbour Wetlands. The council pages also set out when off-leash exercise is allowed at McConchie and O’Connell, so read them and the signs on site first. Rules can change, so check the council page on the day.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, council pages, government pages and the places’ own websites. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 4 October 2026. Facilities and opening hours change, so check the official page before you go. The photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of place, not the places on this page.
