Correction (3 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 3 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

Two places. That is what we could verify for remote work near South Morang, and both are in Mernda, not South Morang, which is why the title says “near”. We are not padding the list.

One is a cafe, Split Bean Cafe, where a listing flags free Wi-Fi. The other is Mernda Library, where the library’s own site lists free Wi-Fi and a coworking space. For each we give the listed hours and what we hold on cost. We hold no stated laptop policy for either, so check before you set up.

The Australian Good Food Guide lists “Free Wifi” for Split Bean Cafe. That is a feature flag on AGFG, and we did not confirm it on the cafe’s own site, so test the connection before you rely on it. The cafe sits in the Mernda Village Shopping Centre.

The cafe’s own site lists opening hours of Monday to Friday 06:00am to 03:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 07:30am to 02:30pm. That is an early start for a weekday. AGFG shows slightly different hours, so we use the cafe’s own.

The cheapest item we copied is Toast or Raisin Toast at $9. Eggs Your Way On Toast is $13.90, Shakshuka is $19.90 and Egg Benedict is $21.90. The site also lists a Big Breakfast at $24.90.

On the menu (copied from splitbeancafe.com.au on 3 October 2026):

  • Toast or Raisin Toast: $9
  • Eggs Your Way On Toast: $13.90
  • Shakshuka: $19.90
  • Egg Benedict: $21.90

Desk price: no desk fee is listed, so the cheapest way in on the menu we copied is Toast or Raisin Toast at $9.

Mernda Library — 180 Riverdale Boulevard (Shop MM3, 16/180 Riverdale Boulevard), Mernda VIC 3754

Mernda Library is a Yarra Plenty Regional Library branch inside Mernda Town Centre. The library’s site lists “Free Wi-Fi” and a “Coworking Space”. The Whittlesea council page lists a “free tea and coffee station, community lounge, public computers, charging lockers for your personal devices, and coworking space”.

The weekly hours on the library’s site are Sunday closed, Monday to Wednesday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM, Thursday 9:30 AM – 8:30 PM and Friday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM. The weekly table we captured runs Sunday to Friday with no Saturday row, but when the page was read on Saturday 3 October 2026 it showed a separate “Open Today” line with Saturday hours, so confirm Saturday hours before you go.

We captured no coworking booking rules or fees, so none are given here.

Laptop policy: we hold no stated policy, but the council page lists charging lockers for personal devices.

Best for: a weekday session that runs past dinner on a Thursday, going by the 8:30 PM close on the library’s site.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 3 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the places’ own websites, the Australian Good Food Guide and council pages. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 3 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of food or place, not the places on this page.
