Working from a cafe starts with one question: does anyone say the Wi-Fi is free? This page lists four cafes, three in South Yarra and one in Richmond, where the venue or the Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG) says so.
We checked each one against two independent sources: the venue’s own site and AGFG, plus OpenStreetMap where it had an entry. We could not find a published laptop policy for any of them, so treat the Wi-Fi line as a tag, not a promise of a desk. Hours and prices below say whose listing they come from.

Two Birds One Stone — 12 Claremont Street, South Yarra VIC 3141
Two Birds One Stone is a cafe on Claremont Street. Its site says free Wi-Fi is available in the outdoor area, for working, browsing or catching up with friends. The menu prints a maximum time limit of 90 minutes, plus a 10% weekend surcharge and 18% on public holidays. Its site lists Monday to Thursday 7am to 3pm, Friday 7am to 4pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 8am to 3pm, and the menu prints Eggs your way on toast at $14.00 before any surcharge. We could not find power points mentioned.

MiddleSouthEast is on Chapel Street. AGFG lists “Free Wifi” for it, but we could not find any wifi or power detail on its own site. The site gives hours of Monday to Sunday from 6.30am to 4pm on its lunch-menu page, and says its breakfast menu is served from 7am. The menu prints Fruit Toast/Toast at $10.

Desk price: MiddleSouthEast’s menu prints Eggs On Toast at $15 and Avocado Toast at $19, so a working breakfast has a published starting point.
Ned’s Bake South Yarra — 134 Toorak Road, South Yarra VIC 3141
Ned’s Bake South Yarra is a bakery on Toorak Road. AGFG tags it with “Free Wifi”, “Alfresco Dining” and “Takeaway”, and its own site lists a brunch menu. We could not read any prices, so there is no desk price to quote. The locations block on its site prints “Sun-Mon: 7am-3pm” for South Yarra, which is worth confirming with the venue.
Best for: Someone who wants an AGFG free Wifi tag with a takeaway option, bearing in mind we found no laptop policy.
Friends of Mine — 506 Swan Street, Richmond VIC 3121
Friends of Mine is on Swan Street in Richmond, so it is the one place here outside South Yarra. AGFG tags it “Free Wifi” and “Pet Friendly”, and we found no wifi detail on its own site. That site lists Monday to Friday as 7am to 3pm and weekends from 7:30am to 3pm. It also says the cafe believes brunch is the most important meal of the day.
Commute: It sits on Swan Street in Richmond, not in South Yarra, so check the trip before you plan a work session there.
