Correction (10 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 9 October 2026.

Six bakeries and pastry shops sit around Southbank, none inside it: two in South Melbourne and four in the Melbourne CBD. Pick a lane, bread or pastry, and then pick a suburb.

This page runs on addresses and listed hours, because that is what the sources gave us. None of the sources we read names a coffee roaster for these places, so we have not guessed one. We could not find readable prices on their own pages either, so none are printed.

Wood Frog Bakery — 301 Coventry Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205

Wood Frog Bakery’s branch page lists Mon to Sun 7am - 5pm. Its site also says “All our other breads are vegetarian/vegan.” That is the bakery’s own line, so it is the one to rely on. The site is undated, so check current hours before a trip.

Go for: The bread range, with that vegetarian and vegan line as your starting point; ask which loaves it covers.

Cobb Lane — 322-326 Coventry Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205

Cobb Lane’s own site lists the Coventry Street address in South Melbourne. The OpenStreetMap entry agrees on the name. The hours we found on its pages belong to a different store, so we have not printed any for this one. The site is undated.

Roaster: None named in the sources we read, so check the site or ask at the counter.

Hopetoun Bake Shop — 20-22 McKillop Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

The bake shop has its own page, and that page and OpenStreetMap agree on the McKillop Street address in the CBD. The hours text we found merges two different sets of hours, so we have not printed any. The site is undated, so treat details as a starting point.

The order: We could not read a priced menu, so look at the bake shop page and decide there, sweet or savoury.

Lune Croissanterie — 670 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

Lune Croissanterie’s own site and OpenStreetMap agree on the Lonsdale Street address in the CBD. The hours line we found was for a different store, so we have not printed any. The name points to croissants, but we have no menu quote to say more. The site is undated.

Go for: Croissants, going by the name alone; confirm what is on offer on its site.

Amie Bakery Cafe — 500 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

Amie Bakery Cafe’s site says “whether it’s your breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea or anytime during your workday” you can pop into a store. OpenStreetMap tags Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 16:30. That tag is the only hours source we have, and it may be out of date. The Collins Street address matches on both sources.

The order: The site only speaks of a “wide range of fresh and tasty products”, so there is no named dish to point at; ask what is in the cabinet.

CBD Bakery — 480 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

CBD Bakery’s own site and OpenStreetMap agree on the Bourke Street address. The site is undated and we have not printed its hours. Check the shop before you go.

Laptop policy: We could not find one on the pages we read; ask before you open the lid.

Quick answers

Where are the bakeries near Southbank?

Two are in South Melbourne: Wood Frog Bakery and Cobb Lane, both on Coventry Street. Four are in the Melbourne CBD: Hopetoun Bake Shop on McKillop Street, Lune Croissanterie on Lonsdale Street, Amie Bakery Cafe on Collins Street and CBD Bakery on Bourke Street.

Which of these bakeries list their opening hours?

Wood Frog Bakery’s own branch page lists Mon to Sun 7am - 5pm. For Amie Bakery Cafe, the only hours we have are an OpenStreetMap tag for Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 16:30, which may be out of date. We have not printed hours for the other four, so check with each shop.

Is there a bakery in South Melbourne with vegan bread?

Wood Frog Bakery’s own site says “All our other breads are vegetarian/vegan.” Its shop is on Coventry Street in South Melbourne. The site is undated, so ask which breads that line covers.

Do these bakeries list prices?

We could not find prices we could read on the own pages of these six places, so this page prints none. Menus and prices change, so check the shop or its site before you go.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 9 October 2026: OpenStreetMap and the places’ own websites. We copied no menu prices from these places’ own pages, so this page prints none. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
