Correction (10 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 9 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

This guide looks at sit-down Thai restaurants in and around Southbank. It lists six places: one in Southbank, two in South Melbourne, one in South Wharf and two in the Melbourne CBD, which sits next to Southbank.

Each place was confirmed at two independent sources, drawn from the restaurants’ own sites, the Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG) and OpenStreetMap. Only one menu price was printed in a form we could copy, so most places here have no price.

A Thai menu is easier to read once you know the pattern: curries, stir-fries, noodles and salads, ordered to share with rice. We name a regional style only where a menu does, so you will not find one asserted here.

Ging Thai — 8 Whiteman St, Southbank VIC 3006

Ging Thai’s Crown Melbourne page gives its address as 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank, and AGFG agrees. AGFG lists Alfresco Dining among its features. The two sources disagree on hours, so we have printed none; Crown’s page is the one to check before you go.

Menu says: we could not read a price, so check Crown’s booking page for the current menu.

THAI 29 — 29 York Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205

THAI 29’s own site lists lunch from 11am to 3pm and dinner from 4.30pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Sunday, and the OpenStreetMap tag matches. The address on its site is 29 York Street, South Melbourne. AGFG lists Alfresco Dining, and the site carries no date we could check, so confirm before you travel.

How to order: the site splits the day into a lunch and a dinner session, so check which one you are booking before you arrive.

BangPop — 35 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf VIC 3006

BangPop’s own site lists Monday to Thursday 12pm to 10pm, Friday 12pm to 10:30pm, Saturday 11:30am to 10:30pm and Sunday 11:30am to 10pm. The address is 35 South Wharf Promenade. The site says diets such as vegan, keto and vegetarian are available and searchable on the Foodini app.

On the menu (copied from bangpop.com.au/menu on 9 October 2026):

  • Crispy Thai Prawn Crackers: $7.90

Order this first: Crispy Thai Prawn Crackers at $7.90, the one price we could copy, listed on the menu with a peanut dipping sauce.

Thai Food Near Me — 195 Clarendon St, South Melbourne VIC 3205

AGFG lists Monday to Friday 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM; the own-site hours match, though the directory is owner-maintained and may be out of date. The address is 195 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne. AGFG lists Vegan Options and Alfresco Dining.

Decoder: AGFG’s vegan tag is a listing feature, so ask which dishes are made without fish sauce, a common ingredient in Thai cooking.

Kan Eang — 306 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000

The Kan Eang group’s own page gives 306 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, and OpenStreetMap lists the same name. We could not read hours or a price we could stand behind, and the site carries no date we could check, so confirm before you book.

Region: the group page does not name a regional style in what we read, so we have not assigned one.

Dodee Paidang — 353 Little Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

Dodee Paidang’s own site lists a Little Collins Street branch at 353 Little Collins Street. The OpenStreetMap tag gives Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 15:00 and 17:00 to 22:00, Friday 12:00 to 15:00 and 17:00 to 23:00, Saturday 12:00 to 23:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 22:00. That is the OpenStreetMap tag only, and it may be out of date.

How to order: the tag splits Monday to Friday into a midday and an evening session, so check the site for which suits you.

Quick answers

Six places are covered: Ging Thai in Southbank, THAI 29 and Thai Food Near Me in South Melbourne, BangPop in South Wharf, and Kan Eang and Dodee Paidang in the Melbourne CBD.

Which Thai restaurants near Southbank list vegan options?

AGFG lists Vegan Options for Thai Food Near Me, and BangPop’s site says vegan diets are searchable on the Foodini app. AGFG tags are the listing’s, not ours, so ask the restaurant what can be made without animal products.

Which Thai places near Southbank publish opening hours?

Is there a Thai restaurant near Southbank with a printed menu price?

BangPop’s menu prints Crispy Thai Prawn Crackers at $7.90, the only price we could copy for this page. For the other five places we could not read a price, so we have not quoted one.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 9 October 2026: the places’ own websites, the Australian Good Food Guide and OpenStreetMap. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 9 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
