Correction (10 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 9 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

Three places on this page say, in a source, that dogs or pets are welcome. One is a rooftop bar on Bourke Street in the Melbourne CBD, and two are in South Melbourne, next to Southbank. That is the whole list. We could not source more, so we have not padded it.

Only Good Heavens Rooftop’s own site says dogs outright. The other two carry Pet Friendly on the AGFG directory, which is a listing feature. Parks and off-lead areas are a separate question for the council order, and this page does not cover them.

Good Heavens Rooftop — 79 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC

Status: welcome, per the venue. Good Heavens Rooftop’s own site says “Plenty of room for walk-ins, and dogs are welcome too.” That is the venue’s own statement, which is the standard this page uses. Its site lists opening “from 12pm daily”, and OpenStreetMap tags Sunday to Wednesday 12:00 to 23:00 and Thursday to Saturday 12:00 to 01:00. Hours can change, so check before you go.

Bring: Bags and a lead, and ask on arrival which areas of the rooftop dogs can use, because the quoted line does not say.

Railway Hotel South Melbourne — 280 Ferrars Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205

Status: listed, not stated. AGFG lists the Railway Hotel South Melbourne as Pet Friendly and as Alfresco Dining. Those are directory listing features, not a statement from the pub, and the tag does not say the word dogs. The pub’s own site is the place to confirm. We have not printed hours for this one.

On the menu (copied from railwaypub.com.au/menu on 9 October 2026):

  • Spaghetti with Napoli sauce: $14
  • Roast of the Day (GFO): $36
  • Sausage Rolls & Chip: $15
  • Parma & Chips: $15

Inside or outside only: The listing pairs Pet Friendly with Alfresco Dining but does not say which applies to dogs, so ask before you sit down.

Pizzateca Lupa — 116 Cecil Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205

Status: listed, not stated. AGFG tags Pizzateca Lupa with Pet Friendly and with Alfresco Dining. As with the pub, that is a directory feature, so treat it as a lead to confirm rather than a rule. The restaurant’s own site gives the Cecil Street address but, in what we read, says nothing about dogs. We have not printed hours.

Off-leash status: Not covered by any source here, and a restaurant listing is not a council order, so keep the dog on a lead and ask the venue.

Quick answers

Are there dog-friendly pubs and restaurants in Southbank?

Three places near Southbank, none inside it, carry a dog or pet claim in a source: Good Heavens Rooftop on Bourke Street, the Railway Hotel South Melbourne and Pizzateca Lupa, both in South Melbourne. Only Good Heavens Rooftop’s own site says dogs are welcome; the other two are listed as Pet Friendly on AGFG.

Does Good Heavens Rooftop allow dogs?

Its own site says “Plenty of room for walk-ins, and dogs are welcome too.” The line does not say which parts of the venue dogs can use, so ask when you arrive. The site lists opening from 12pm daily, and hours can change.

Is the Railway Hotel in South Melbourne pet friendly?

AGFG lists the Railway Hotel South Melbourne as Pet Friendly and as Alfresco Dining. That is a directory feature, not the pub’s own statement, and it does not say whether pets are allowed inside or only outside, so confirm with the venue.

Where are the off-leash dog parks near Southbank?

This page does not cover parks. We have not sourced any council off-leash order for Southbank, so we will not guess at times or boundaries. Check the council order and the signage at the gate. The three venues here are listed because they say pets or dogs are welcome, not because of off-lead rules.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources on 9 October 2026: OpenStreetMap, the places’ own websites and the Australian Good Food Guide. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, on 9 October 2026. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
