Correction (9 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 5 October 2026.
Which St Kilda bakery opens earliest, and which one does gluten free bread? This page covers five bakeries and patisseries in and around St Kilda: one on Acland Street, three in Balaclava and one in St Kilda East.
Each place was checked against two independent sources: OpenStreetMap, the place’s own website and the Australian Good Food Guide. Hours appear only where a named listing prints them, and we say whose listing it is. We copied no menu prices, so this page prints none.

Monarch Cakes is an Acland Street cake shop. Its website says it has been baking from the same recipes for over 80 years. It also says its Polish Cheesecake has been made the same way since the early 1920s. The site pages look dated, and sources disagree on hours, so confirm details with the shop before you go.
The order: the Toasted Coconut Fudge Brownie, which the shop’s site labels vegan.

Baker in the Rye calls itself an artisan rye bread bakery in Balaclava on its own website. AGFG’s listing shows 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, seven days a week. The bakery’s own site prints no hours, so treat those times as the listing’s claim. AGFG files the same Carlisle Street address under St Kilda East.
