Sunbury has very few dedicated bars, and this page says so rather than padding the list. There are four places here, all in Sunbury: a cafe with wine bar in its name, a vineyard cellar door and two pubs.

The Nook Cafe & Wine Bar — 111 Evans St, Sunbury VIC 3429
The name on the Castello’s venue page reads The Nook Cafe & Wine Bar, but the hours it lists are cafe hours, 8:00am to 3:00pm, so treat this as a daytime option. Its site talks up breakfast, lunch and homemade pastries, which suits a low-pressure first meeting over food and coffee rather than a late drink. AGFG lists disabled access here. The menu we read prints Eggs on Toast (V) at $16 and Avocado on Sourdough (V) at $21 for The Nook; check what is poured, and when, before you plan around a glass.

Craiglee Vineyard — 785 Sunbury Rd, Sunbury VIC 3429
Craiglee’s site says its cellar door, held in the old bluestone winery, is generally open for tastings on the first Sunday of the month. That makes it a planned outing, not a drop-in. We could not find a tasting fee printed, and we could not find accessibility details, so ask when you check the date. The site footer reads 2021, so confirm before you drive out.
Split or splurge: No tasting fee is printed on the pages we read, so ask about cost when you confirm the opening date, and keep a Sunbury cafe as plan B if the door is shut.
Ball Court Hotel — 60 Macedon Street, Sunbury VIC 3429
The Ball Court Hotel’s site lists a beer garden and bistro, a sports bar and a kitchen, and AGFG tags it with disabled access and live music. Live music and large TV screens (the site mentions them for sport) mean this may not be the quietest table, so ask which room suits conversation. Its page lists Parma & Pot at $24 for the Ball Court Hotel, available lunch and dinner every Tuesday and not on public holidays, and the Spring menu prints Chicken Parma at $33.50. The site also lists happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday, through The Pass app only.

The Royal Hotel’s site describes its Sports Bar as a relaxed and friendly spot for catching up with friends or a relaxing drink. The same site bills itself as a UFC pub showing every bout loud on the big screen, so conversation may be tough on fight nights. Its home page lists general hours of 10:00am to 4:00am every day, with bistro hours of 11:30am to 3:00pm and 5:30pm to 9:00pm. We could not read its menu prices or find accessibility details, and the site looks undated, so confirm before you go.
Exit plan: The site lists general hours until 4:00am every day, so you can leave when it suits, but check the bar’s screen schedule first if you want to talk.
