This page is pasta-led: six Italian places for a sit-down dinner, four in Thornbury and two in Northcote. Each entry quotes what the venue says about its own food, then adds only a short plain-English definition where a dish needs one.
We checked every place against its own website and a second source such as the Australian Good Food Guide, OpenStreetMap or a booking page. Prices are shown only where we could read them as printed, and where a menu is an image or a PDF we could not read, we say so.
BYO and corkage are listed as not stated unless the venue says otherwise.

Umberto Espresso Bar — 917 High Street, Thornbury VIC 3071
Umberto’s site calls it your neighbourhood trattoria (a casual Italian eatery) where fresh pasta, genuine hospitality and good company come together, and says its menu is built around simple Italian cooking with fresh pasta made daily. It lists Tuesday as dinner only with $25 pasta and vino from 5pm to 9:30pm, and Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30am to 9:30pm, closed Monday, with a 10% surcharge on Sundays. Its what’s-on page also prints Veal Cotoletta & Italian Coleslaw at $25 on Thursdays.

The classic: Veal cotoletta (a crumbed veal cutlet) with Italian coleslaw, which its what’s-on page prints at $25 on Thursdays.
1800 Lasagne — 653 High Street, Thornbury VIC 3071
1800 Lasagne is on High Street in Thornbury, and lasagne (layered sheets of pasta baked with sauce and cheese) is the name above the door. Its own site data lists Wednesday to Friday from 17:00 to 23:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 15:00 to 23:00. AGFG lists Fully Licensed, Alfresco Dining, Takeaway and Delivery. The menu is an image with no readable text, so we have no item prices.
BYO / takeaway: The AGFG listing is tagged for takeaway and delivery, and it does not state BYO.
Farro (Thornbury) — 608 High Street, Thornbury VIC 3071
Farro’s site describes slow-fermented sourdough pizza and fresh pasta made exclusively with sustainable spelt flour (spelt is an older relative of modern wheat). The venue’s website gives its trading times as 5PM to late from Monday to Friday, and 12PM to late on Saturday and Sunday. AGFG lists Child Friendly, and its FAQ says a kids menu and highchairs are available. Ordering runs on an app we could not read, so no prices are quoted.
The style: Sourdough pizza and fresh pasta on spelt flour, as the venue describes it; the oven type is not stated.
St. Loui’s Pizza & Pasta (Thornbury) — 402 Station Street, Thornbury VIC 3071
St. Loui’s is at 402 Station Street, and its site describes everything from classic Margherita and loaded pizzas to gluten-free and vegan options. It lists Tuesday to Thursday from 3:30pm to 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 12am and Sunday from 3pm to 9:30pm. AGFG lists Alfresco Dining, Child Friendly, Delivery, Disabled Access and Takeaway. We could not find prices we could read.
Verdict for: A casual sit-down or a Friday or Saturday meal after dark, since its site lists those nights to 12am.
Va Penne — 493 High Street, Northcote VIC 3070
Va Penne sits on High Street in Northcote, and its site lists a printed spring menu. That menu prints Casarecce Primavera (casarecce is a short, twisted pasta) with spring vegetables, chilli, lemon oil and Parmesan at $29, and Linguine Vongole with clams, white wine, garlic, chilli and parsley at $31. It also lists Margherita pizza at $24. A gluten free and vegan casarecce pasta option is listed as an add-on. We could not find published hours.

Pizza e Vino — 232 High Street, Northcote VIC 3070
Pizza e Vino’s homepage lists weekly deals and says its pizzas are freshly made and wood-fired. It prints a classic Large Margherita Pizza at $12 every Monday, and its menu prints the HOT STUFF pizza at S $17 / L $28. Its site footer lists Sunday to Thursday from 5 to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 5pm to late, though its own schema data and AGFG list later closing times, so check. AGFG tags it Pet Friendly.
