Correction (4 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources between 2 October 2026 and 4 October 2026, and every price was copied from the page it was published on.

The page is brief, and that is deliberate. We found three restaurants near Thornbury that pass our checks, and all three are in Preston, not in Thornbury itself. Only one of them, Pad Cha, presents itself as a Thai restaurant.

Chumanchu has Thai dishes on a wider menu. Kampot Kitchen is Cambodian, not Thai, and is included because Cambodian food sits next to Thai on many South-East Asian menus.

For every entry we explain a single dish, mention a regional style only if the menu itself does, and copy prices just as the linked page prints them.

Pad Cha — 319 High Street, Preston VIC 3072

Pad Cha is the one place here that describes itself as a Thai restaurant. Its site tags dine in and takeaway and says “Licenced and BYO (wine)”. Its hours line lists Monday and Wednesday to Sunday from 5:30 - 10 pm, with Tuesday shown as closed.

Pad Thai is stir-fried rice noodles, and the menu describes Pad Thai as rice noodles, red onion, snake beans, bean shoots, egg and peanuts at A$21.50. The same menu calls Mussmun Curry a “Famous Southern Thai” slow cook beef curry with potato, at A$24.50.

On the menu (copied from padcha.com.au on 4 October 2026):

  • Pad Thai: A$21.50
  • Thai Green Curry: A$23.50
  • Mussmun Curry: A$24.50
  • Cashew Nut Stir-fry: A$22.50

Menu says: the Thai Green Curry is cooked in coconut milk with bamboo shoots, basil, capsicum, snake beans and zucchini, and the menu prints A$23.50.

Chumanchu — 2/4 Gilbert Road, Preston VIC 3072

Chumanchu’s menu runs wider than Thai, so read it by dish, not by restaurant. Its site shows Massaman Beef Curry, served with coconut rice, at $28. Massaman is a Thai-style curry, and the menu does not name a region for it.

The site lists dine in and take away, and says it is closed on Monday. It also prints a brunch line available Friday to Sunday 11AM to 4PM. Wine is covered by “FULLY LICENSED & BYO WINE ONLY”.

On the menu (copied from chumanchu.com on 2 October 2026):

  • Massaman Beef Curry: $28
  • Thai Fish Cakes (5P) w/ sweet chilli: $13
  • Prawn Crackers: $6
  • Edamame Beans: $8

How to order: the menu prints Chicken Canai, tender soft chicken on the bone served with roti bread, at $26, and marks one clay-pot stew as VG for vegan.

Kampot Kitchen — 11 High Street, Preston VIC 3072

Kampot Kitchen is Cambodian, not Thai. Its ordering page prints a baguette heading, the num pang style of Cambodian sandwich, and its site lists a bacon and egg baguette with home-made kampot sauce with kampot pepper. The site lists hours as Monday – Friday: 10am – 3pm and Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 4pm.

On the ordering page, Coconut Prawns are $18.00 and Caramelised Tofu is $14.00. The site describes the tofu as caramelised sweet and sour tofu and marks it (v).

On the menu (copied from kampot-kitchen-preston.nextorder.com on 4 October 2026):

  • Coconut Prawns: $18.00
  • Double Cooked Pork Belly: $16.00
  • Kor Ko: $16.00
  • Caramelised Tofu: $14.00

Decoder: num pang is the Cambodian word for bread, and here it means a baguette filled from the menu, while the Cambodian Coffee is $6.00.

Quick answers

Where can I get Thai food near Thornbury?

All three places on this page are in Preston, not Thornbury. Pad Cha describes itself on its site as a Thai restaurant with dine in and takeaway. Chumanchu prints Massaman Beef Curry, served with coconut rice, at $28 on a wider menu.

Is Kampot Kitchen Thai food?

No, Kampot Kitchen is Cambodian. Its ordering page prints baguettes under a num pang heading, and its site lists Gravity Espresso coffee, beans freshly roasted in Melbourne. We include it here as a nearby South-East Asian option.

Which Preston Thai places are BYO?

Pad Cha’s site says “Licenced and BYO (wine)”. Chumanchu’s site says “FULLY LICENSED & BYO WINE ONLY”. Kampot Kitchen’s pages we read do not mention BYO, so check with it directly.

Pad Cha’s hours line shows Tuesday closed. Chumanchu’s site says it is closed on Monday. Kampot Kitchen’s site lists Monday – Friday: 10am – 3pm and Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 4pm, so check its listing for the day you want.

How we checked

We checked every place on this page against at least two independent sources between 2 October 2026 and 4 October 2026: OpenStreetMap and the places’ own websites. Every price is copied exactly as printed on the page linked under Sources, between 2 October 2026 and 4 October 2026, the date given beside each menu. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check with the venue before you go. The cover photo is illustrative, from Unsplash, and does not show any place on this page.
