Where do you go for a drink-first date near Viewbank? This page covers five places in and around Viewbank: four in Heidelberg and one in Lower Plenty. Some are pubs, some are restaurants with a bar, and one has Wine Bar in its name.
Each was checked against OpenStreetMap, its own website and the Australian Good Food Guide. Talk-ability is read from what each venue publishes, such as screens, live artists and seating. Prices are copied from menus, and where we found none we say so.
Dates do not have to involve alcohol, so the daytime options are flagged too. Plan B for each is to check the venue’s own listing first.

Barklys Hotel — 92 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg VIC 3084
Barklys Hotel’s site lists a great selection of spirits and cocktails, plus a beer garden with cocktails by the fire and big screens for live sports. Its happy hour menu reads Monday to Friday 4PM-6PM, with house wine at $7 and a house schooner at $7.50. The site lists opening as seven days, 10am to 4am. It also says six TVs show sport, so a talk-first date may want to ask about seating when booking.

The Train Yard — 184 Burgundy St, Heidelberg VIC 3084
The Train Yard’s site lists trading hours of Monday to Friday 6:30AM to 2:30PM and weekends 7:30AM to 2:30PM, which makes it a daytime option. The site also names premium coffee by Axil Coffee Roasters, mentions wifi, and describes a retractable roof over the beer garden. It mentions Friday live artists and a Friday happy hour, but those do not match the listed hours, so confirm with the venue first. The drinks menu prints Ruggeri ‘Argeo’ Prosecco NV as 12 / 48.

Little Black Pig & Sons — 48 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg VIC 3084
AGFG tags Little Black Pig & Sons as Romantic and lists a Bar, and its site describes produce driven Italian cooking with a la carte and a five-course tasting menu. AGFG lists evening sessions from Wednesday to Saturday, with 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Wednesday, and lunch sessions on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Its menu page says it is unable to accommodate infants and children under six years of age. We could not find prices.
Say this: Ask whether you can start with a drink at the bar, since AGFG lists a Bar.
Solana Restaurant and Wine Bar — 410 Main Road, Lower Plenty VIC 3093
Solana’s site calls it a modern Italian restaurant set on beautiful green acreage, and AGFG tags it Romantic, with Alfresco Dining, Vegan Options and Gluten Free Options. The site lists Tuesday to Thursday 05:00 PM to 09:30 PM, Friday and Saturday 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday 12:00 PM to 09:00 PM. AGFG shows different hours, so check before booking. We could not find prices.
Exit plan: Lower Plenty is outside Viewbank and we could not find transport details, so sort the trip home before you book.
Hecho en Mexico (Heidelberg) — 94 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg VIC 3084
Hecho en Mexico’s site lists ample indoor and outdoor seating, happy hour deals, and a menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. It lists 11:30 am to 9:00 pm every day, so this is a daytime-to-early-evening option rather than a late one. Its site prints Bottomless Brunch 2.0 at $60 per person for the Lite option and $75 per person for the Original option. The Lite option includes unlimited drinks and one main meal, per the site.
