Correction (1 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed five pizzerias, with addresses, opening hours, prices and seat counts, that we could not find at any primary source, and it claimed we had eaten at every pizza spot in the area. It has been rewritten from scratch. Every place below was checked against its own current website, menu or ordering page and against a second, independent listing on 1 October 2026.
Every pizza menu makes a claim, even when it says nothing: the style is in the description, the oven is in the boast, and the price is in the corner. Inside West Footscray we found two pizza kitchens with a current menu online, one a wood-fired restaurant on Barkly Street and one a takeaway shop on Ashley Street, so this guide also takes in three neighbours in Seddon, Yarraville and Footscray. Each entry names the style from what the menu says, quotes any claim about dough or oven exactly as the venue makes it, and gives one classic with its listed price.
A quick primer before you order. Neapolitan pizza (the Naples original) is a soft, thin-centred round with a puffy, charred rim, baked for a minute or two in a very hot oven; New York pizza is a big, wide round cut into foldable slices; and the Australian takeaway pizza is its own tradition, built on tomato sauce, mozzarella and long topping lists that run all the way to egg and bacon on the Aussie. Menus move, so give them a squiz before you head out.

Harley and Rose — 572 Barkly St, West Footscray VIC 3012

A neighbourhood restaurant that says it is “situated in the heart of West Footscray”, and the one place inside the suburb where the oven is part of the pitch: its own site invites you to drop in for “a wood fired pizza or a family meal”. The menu PDF linked from its site (labelled “Current menu”, though the page also calls it a sample because the menu changes seasonally) lists nine pizzas, from a Rossa of tomato, oregano and fresh garlic at $20 to king prawns with sorrel, mozzarella, lemon and dill at $34. The one to read twice is the pork vindaloo sausage pizza ($26), with red pepper sauce, fior di latte, curry leaves and raita (vindaloo being the Goan curry built on vinegar, garlic and chilli).
The style: wood-fired, with Italian names on the classics and a seasonal hand on the rest. Menu tells: “wood fired pizza” on its own site; a gluten-free base is listed at $4 extra. The classic: Margherita (fior di latte, tomato and basil), $24. BYO / takeaway: takeaway orders by its online button, by phone or in person, and it runs its own take-away bottle-o; BYO is not stated. Verdict for: date night or the family table, Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm, the hours on its own site.
Stretched Pizza — 82E Ashley St, West Footscray VIC 3012

The takeaway end of West Footscray’s pizza map, on Ashley Street, with its own online ordering site billing it as “Pizza Takeaway in West Footscray”. Every pizza on the menu is a 13-inch base, and the classics (Margherita, Napoletana with anchovies, capers and olives, Hawaiian, Capricciosa and more) all sit at $19.90. The gourmet list climbs to The Lot at $25.90, a potato pizza with kale gremolata, gorgonzola and chilli oil is $23.90, and a separate vegan list includes the Vegherita (vegan mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil, capers, rocket and olives) at $23.90.
The style: the Australian takeaway pizza, sized at 13 inches across the board. Menu tells: no claims about dough or oven; every pizza description on the menu starts with the 13-inch base. The classic: Margherita Pizza, $19.90, or two pizzas of your choice in the Dinner for 2 combo at $39.90. BYO / takeaway: takeaway and delivery through its own ordering site; there is a homemade lasagna Bolognese ($16.90) for whoever isn’t in a pizza mood. Verdict for: a quick feed at home.
Pizza Del Sole — 343 Somerville Rd, Yarraville VIC 3013

South of West Footscray on Somerville Road, and a pizzeria that dates itself: its own site says it has been serving local and international diners “since 1977”. The menu is the long suburban list, napoli sauce and mozzarella under everything from the Americana (ham, salami, onions and capsicum, listed from $13.99) to the house Del Sole Special (from $14.99, with salami, ham, mushroom, capsicum, onions, pineapple, prawns and olives) and a gourmet calamari and prawn pizza from $15.99. These are starting prices: its ordering site offers each pizza in more than one size.
The style: the classic Melbourne suburban pizzeria, napoli base and named toppings. Menu tells: no oven or dough claims; “Traditional & Gourmet Pizzas” is how the site sorts them. The classic: Americana Pizza, from $13.99. BYO / takeaway: the site says it is “fully licensed” with dine-in, pick-up and home delivery; check its ordering page for delivery availability before planning on delivery. Verdict for: the family table.
Mozzarella Bar — 103 Victoria St, Seddon VIC 3011
Illustrative photo. Photo by Luigi Boccardo on Unsplash
The Neapolitan claim on this list belongs to the Seddon restaurant on Victoria Street, and it is made in full on its own home page: “Certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, our pizzas at Mozzarella Bar are true to Naples, Italy.” The association, based in Naples, sets out what it counts as true Neapolitan pizza. The menu splits red-base pizzas (pizza rosa) from white-base ones (pizza in bianco), and keeps a Margherita at $23 beside a Margherita Verace with mozzarella di bufala at $26. Napoli (anchovies, olives, oregano) is $24, and a gluten-free base is listed at $5 extra.
The style: Neapolitan, by the venue’s own certification claim. Menu tells: “fired in a wood oven for just 60-90 seconds”, in “a traditional wood-fired oven at 450℃”, with a “cornicione crust” (the puffy rim), all in its own words. The classic: Margherita Verace, $26. BYO / takeaway: bookings through its site’s “Find a table” link; BYO and takeaway are not stated on its own site. Verdict for: date night.
Slice Shop Pizza — 101 Nicholson Street Mall, Footscray VIC 3011
Illustrative photo. Photo by Inna Safa on Unsplash
In central Footscray, on the Nicholson Street Mall, a shop whose home page bills it, in capitals, as Footscray’s home of the massive 18-inch pizza. The named pizzas on its ordering page are all 18-inch: a Margherita of San Marzano tomato, mozzarella and basil at $35, a Pepperoni at $37, and a field-mushroom pizza with shiitake powder and truffle oil at $39, with half-and-half at $39 if the table can’t agree. Its ordering page was also running a buy-three-pizzas, get-a-Margherita-free deal when we checked, and garlic bread is $7.
The style: big-pie and New York-leaning (an 18-inch round cut into wide slices is the New York format, and the menu’s “New York Cheese” pizza points the same way). Menu tells: San Marzano tomato named on the red pizzas; no oven claims. The classic: 18-inch Margherita, $35. BYO / takeaway: online orders are for pick-up from 101 Nicholson Street; BYO is not stated. Verdict for: feeding a crowd; its site also lists catering.

How we checked
On 1 October 2026 we read each venue’s own website and its menu or ordering page, and copied every item and price exactly as printed. Harley and Rose’s prices come from the menu PDF linked as “Current menu” on its site; Stretched Pizza’s from the menu feed behind its own ordering site; Pizza Del Sole’s from the data behind its ordering site, which gives each pizza’s starting price; Mozzarella Bar’s from the menu page on its site; and Slice Shop Pizza’s from its own online ordering shop. We confirmed each address at a second, independent source: OpenStreetMap, DoorDash or the Australian Good Food Guide. Delivery-app prices were not used. Claims about ovens, dough and certification are quoted as each venue makes them; we did not test them, and we did not eat at these places for this guide. The photos are illustrative, from Unsplash: they show the kind of pizza, not the venue’s own food.
